Focus stacking should never show up in the Develop module, it's only supposed to be accessible from Browse. If you're seeing it in Develop, take a screenshot showing that and let On1 know.

Thanks for the reply and your patience Rick.

When Focus Stacking, I adjust one image in the Develop module, sync the others images in the sequence. All the synched images are now ajusted and selected, ready for Focus Stacking but I have switch to Browse?

After I'm done with the stacking, I'm left with a file with an ONPHOTO file extension. What's for? I still need to save the stacked image as a .PSD or a .TIF

Yes, that sequence is correct although I thought the images should be Developed after stacking, but no problem doing it your way.

The onphoto file is the result of your stacked images, you can do further Editing on it if you like, but need to export it just like any other file to get a PSD or TIFF.

I’m having the same problem, but in the browse module.  I took a sequence of 30 photos of a rose using Nikon’s focus stacking routine (Z7 - 75MB files).  When I select them all the focus stacking icon is not available.  However, when I only select 14 of them it is available.  Is there a limit on the size/number of photos that can be stacked?  I’m using the latest version of ON1 2020.

Yes, the limit is 14 images. You should be able to create multiple stacks of 14 then stack the stacks.

    Using 2020.1:

I select 7 images from 28 images -> Run Stack -> Result = 6 layers in Edit (I chose layers in the Stack options menu): Top layer = the second of the 7 images chosen at the start.

When I select Browse to look at the images chosen for the stacking I now have an image labelled (file name).focus.on photo with the file name being the file name of the 4th (from the top) layer.

Knowing there is a max of 14 images at a time for stacking I will need to run 4 lots of 7 images (because I only want to run 7 at a time to keep the exercise as a small controlled exercise) This will give me 4 images with (filename).focus.on photo amongst the 28 images.

To get one stacked image of the 28 images do I run Stack a 5th time by selecting the four images with .focus onphoto?

When I have tried this I get a message about insufficient images being chosen.

I video showing how to manage more then 14 images taken in stacking software ( I am trying to use Helicon) would be great as the only video I can find about stacking uses less than 14 images  which is not helpful as I actually have 70 stacked images that I am trying to use I could use Helicon Focus but I wanted to use On1.

I hope the above makes sense and any help will be gratefully accepted as this is doing my head in

    Thanks

    David G

I don't have much experience with focus stacking so I haven't tried doing the multiple stacks thing myself. Someone within the last week however posted that it worked for him. I don't know what he did differently and I'm not seeing it posted here so it may have been the Plus forums or on Facebook that I read it.

I would do what you are doing so I'm going to say it's correct. :) I'd suggest asking support about this or hopefully, someone who has done it will chime in.

I am not able to do focus stacking, so I can't try it myself. If On1 won't stack the focus files, you might try exporting each of the 4 groups to a TIFF and stack those instead.

    Thanks Guys.

Hopefully someone will come along and shine a light on this "dark art"

I did not bother Support with "How do I?" type questions as I know that is the last thing they need. This forum is for this sort of question.

I work for a global siftware company and am always telling my customers that Support is foe issues like "2+2=5" not a substitute for "Education" type questions which is what the training videos should cover, and are currently getting better at covering... still a way to go though..... but getting there thanks to Dylan.

I guess it depends upon the company you work for. I've managed technical support departments and a large part of my job, especially when working with "creative types" like 3D artists was to help users figure out how to get the program to do what they want.

If it isn't working as anticipated it could be a bug that support should be made aware of or already know about and have at least a possible workaround for.

I just found this post from a few days ago about stacking 80 photos. Post to it and ask him how.

@ RICK..  Thanks.. reposted ... job done... I hope ..

@BRIAN:  yeah but we hve a large Professional Srvices division of absolute wizards and they try to use Support rather than Professional Services to save money. What they have bought runs their organization and has a serious price tag but they try to "cut corners" for a pitance in the overall scheme of things.
