Language - Nederlands ( Dutch )
Hello,
The other wise good program is really scaled down in Nederlands ( Dutch )
The translation of some terms looks like it's done by a machine , please work on the translation or don't advertise the program in Dutch...
-
Ronald,
It's the same thing with the French version. Some terms are so out of context as to be meaningless and confusing.
One exemple: Highlights was translated into "Points forts" which means "Strong points" in english.
Vibrance and vibration are written the same in english and french and have the same meaning. But in the French version, there's a function that reduces vibrations on the skin!!!
Obviously, Google Translation was used and it doesnt do context!
I've submitted a couple of examples to the ON1 team and will send more as I discover them

Ronald,
You're absolutely right.
I switched my On1 version to English...

Ik ben ook terug naar Engels gegaan. De Nederlandse vertaling is vaak belachelijk en soms lachwekkend.

I switched back to English too. The Dutch translation is often ridiculous and sometimes risible.

The Italian version is the same...I switched to English too.
before claiming a new improvement, they should verifying that the improvement works properly... this just not to be considered unprofessional

Are there other languages files somewhere in the installation path? If yes we may modify them. I think i'll be a good idea.

If you contact support and let them know you're willing to help with the translation to your language they will send you a file for you to make corrections. It can't be used by the program but instead is used in the building of the translation files the program uses.

Brian Lawson Funny, I offered my help for the Dutch translation shortly after the release of 2020. Never got a reply. I'll try again in a minute...

That is odd Jan, other users have reported receiving a spreadsheet for them to work with. Hopefully you'll get a better response this time. :)

I just submitted a request. Let's wait and see...

When you buy a car, do you help the manufacturer translating the user guide ? More than a month ago, they announced ON1 User guides translated in 9 languages, soon, very soon of course ! Still waiting, as for software localizations less funny-stupid-ridiculous and without impacting the browse/edit job.

You do understand that ON1 is a small company which does not have speakers of those languages on their staff so they used online translators. They could hire a bunch of native speakers to do the translations but then everyone would complain about the increase in cost of the software that would be needed to pay for those translators. Comparing a company with what, ~20 employees?, to a multinational corporation with hundreds of thousands of employees is hardly a fair comparison.
Bottom line is, do you want the software to get better? I do so I offer to help in whatever ways I can. If you find some of the translations "less funny-stupid-ridiculous" tell them what they got wrong and what it should be and they will fix it. Complaining about the translations on a forum they do not respond to doesn't help anyone.

Ok, my paralel with cars companys was a little bit bad; but how many people do you think in the Luminar, DxO and some others staffs (Affinity, Pixelmator, Raw photo for mac) invested in photo softwares ? Not so much, and the translations are quite good. If ON1 are unable to translate correctly, why do they promise them (soft+user guides); meanwhile they works on video soft and others, instead of working on Photo Raw, on the existing bugs, features improvemnts.
Even if I'm quite satisfied, I'm afraid to update from 2020 to recent update which came few days ago (I've yet seen complaints here about translations making the program crash or some more disfunctions).

Hi Brian Lawson This was the reply from On1 after I offered my help with the Dutch language version of On1 2020:
"Thank you for contacting ON1 support.
We value and thank you for your feedback. I will pass your comments on to our Development Team to see if they would like any translation assistance for foreign languages at this time.
The developers are currently working to correct all of the poor translations and will be releasing updates throughout this next year to address this.
We do also have a page called the ON1 Photo Project where you can submit, review, and vote on ideas for future updates to ON1 Photo RAW. If your idea gets enough votes, our product development team will start working on your idea. We recommend submitting your idea on the ON1 Photo Project page here:
https://www.on1.com/products/photo-raw/ideas/
Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance. We're happy to help."No spreadsheet or something like that...

Thanks for offering to help Jan. I guess at this point they think they have what they need from the other users who have helped out. At least now we know there are improvements we can look forward to receiving.
