Having trouble opening TiFF files in ON1 2020
I use my IPhone X as a work tool and an App I use called Provoke produces TIFF files. LR, Topaz, Luminar all recognize it; but, ON1 2020 I just get a black image in Browse and if I try to Edit I get graphic of man with strip across the image.
Any thoughts?

Check your TIFF against the first part of this article. If you're using an unusual format, it may be unsupported. That symbol you see usually means On1 can't read the file.
EDIT: I just googled iphone x and see it has a high res mode. If you're using that, try standard res to see if it loads.

It can also mean the color space is unsupported. Make sure your tiff files are in the RGB colorspace.

Thanks Brian. How would I check the color space of the original file? Because I transfer them directly from my phone to file on my system.

Are they color or grayscale images? If they are color they have the right color space. Grayscale images can be in either the color or grayscale space.

I did some googling and found...
iPhone X supports two industry standard color gamuts: the sRGB / Rec.709 color gamut used for "most current consumer content," and a new wide DCI-P3 color gamut found in 4K Ultra HD TV sets
... but I couldn't find a way to check it. It will be in the user guide though.

Using the Finder’s Get Info command on the tiff might identify the color space.

I use irfanview here. It's listed in the Exif info.
We also need to know what res mode the camera is set to. On1 only supports standard.

Sorry I have been off line for a couple of days. Here is the finder info on one of the files that comes up completely black in ON1 2020. Trust this is helpful. Brian thanks for the tip on finding the info in Finder. Rick, I am uncertain as to what you mean about "the resolution mode" How would I find that info? I am just using IPhoneX in this particular app it operates at 1X.

How large a file can I upload to this site. I can also make the file available on my Dropbox account if that would be of further help.

Where the Get Info dialog reports "Color space: Gray", that is the problem. Those images need to be converted to an RGB colorspace then ON1 will recognize them and allow you to edit them. You can use Preview or many other pgms to change the colorspace. In Preview go to Tools > Assign profile… and choose one of the color spaces.

Following your instructions Brian these are the choices:
And when I converted it to Generic Grey Profile it still is not visible in ON1. Any other thoughts?

My list shows a boatload more options that your screenshot shows. That could be from starting with a color image though. Try another editing program is all I have left.

Yes the problem with doing the conversion in Preview is that it doesn't allow moving from grayscale to color profiles. Probably because it isn't converting them it is simply assigning something new. You should be able to do a conversion to a RGB colorspace in Affinity.

I will poke around and see what I can find. Thanks for pointing me in a direction towards a solution.
I can open it in LR and then transfer to ON1 without a hitch. So, that might be my work around.

Use Automator: create a new action > search colorsync convert profile or so (I forgot!) > create application, drag it on the finder, drag your gray scale files upon it and it's done (you can drag many photos at the same time) very quickly.
It's a shame ON1 can't open the gray scale files, paradox: why have all those presets for B&W if B&W (grayscale) files can't be seen ?

"It's a shame ON1 can't open the gray scale files, paradox: why have all those presets for B&W if B&W (grayscale) files can't be seen ?"
Grayscale images are not what we call B&W from a camera image. Grayscale images have their own Profile which only contains a scale of Grey from 1-255. What we see as B&W Images are images that retain color information and, in the case where they are a true grayscale image the R, G and B channels have the same value. For example RGB is 0,0,0 (withe to RGB is 255,255,255 (black) and any grey vales in between must be RGB such as 1,1,2 or 155,155,155 etc.
WHat we see as B&W RGB images means we can do things such as emphasise base colors for effect in the conversion, create things such as Toned images etc. etc.

Forgot to add that you can convert a RGB B&W image into Grayscale using the luminosity values of the RGB Gray in the image but once it is a image with a Grayscale profile there is no way to recover the RGB information so you cannot convert it back to original color.

I know that; what I mean is why allow B&W settings, imports etc and don't recognize the grayscales files as other programs (LR, Luminar, and others) do, it's seem very easy to improve in ON1 as for the others developpers; it makes you (me) forced to do more work with third program or script to convert in RGB-sRGB etc...

Thank you Subias for your work around and Don for your comments. I am in Subias' camp in that I think it would be useful if On1 considered amending their software such that it accepts grayscale images. As I believe I mentioned in an earlier post, I use my IPhone and an App called Provoke Camera that produces Greyscale TiFF images. While I understand that those files do not contain the plethora of information that a RAW color image does these TIFF files have enough for my needs and the work that I do and publish.
So, ON1 Developers take a look and see what you can do to make it easier for me and others who might work in the same space to not have to "translate" a Greyscale image in order to process it in ON1.
Thank you!!

Adding support for grayscale images has been suggested in the Photo RAW Project. You can vote for it at https://www.on1.com/products/photo-raw/ideas/idea/color-profiles/.

I did it some months ago...5 stars ratings, and so long to get it !
Instead of create an ON1 "video" nobody needs here, they should spend half a day to improve this feature.

My solution to this same problem was to open the greyscale profile TIFFs (which had been scanned) in Affinity Photo and then export them back out as a TIFF with an sRGB Profile. The new versions of TIFF images can be displayed and edited by ON1 2020.
Manual procedure required - a pain; outcome - priceless. :)
