Map Search doesn't work
Good morning.
My photos do not have GPS data, therefore I need to go to Map view and look for a location in order to insert GPS coordinates.
However, whenever a perform a search, the map doesn't scroll to that location, it remain at the default location (Portland). It doesn't matter what I am searching, Paris or New York or whatever else, the map doesn't move. I have to manually scroll the map.
Is anyone else facing this issue? Any idea how to solve it?
Thank you
Alessandro

Seems to work fine here. This is what I did:
- Switch to map view
- Type Paris
- Click the Paris in France from the list (first item in the list)
- Map centers on Paris, France

Hi Edvard,
Thank you very much for checking from your side.
What you did is the same I do every time.
So, probably there is some setting in my laptop that is preventing this feature to work properly.

Alessandro, are you using the English language setting for ON1 or have you chosen your native language? If you're using a non-English language what happens when you set English for the language? Does the map feature work then?

I'm still surprised by the poor map features, even in Darktable, the open source program, you can drag photos on a map and have them geotagged, including many styles of maps (Goog, OpenStreet and others), and it's free !!!
Waiting for ON1 responding this wish.

Hi Brian,
Yes I am using the English language, I've never changed it.
I did a test installing Photo Raw 2020 on my old Surface tablet and the map search is working fine there.
I am trying to understand what's wrong with my laptop.
At the beginning I thought that, since I always go to Map after editing several photos, the problem was linked to the editing in some way. So, today I opened Photo Raw, I went straight away to the Map view and I did a search. Nothing, the map stay where it is, Portland or the last location I manually selected previously.

I figured it was a long shot but still worth a try. You'll have to get it touch with tech support and see what they have to say about this.

So, I tried to reproduce the Alessandro's issue; just opening ON1 > view map, the city seems to be Portland country, but if I type Paris in the upper text box, Paris map is displayed, so for me it's ok (french language version); no idea for solution helping Alessandro.
Meanwhile, I discovered a way to geotag one photo via map view: go to map view (openstreetmap), search near the place you suppose the photo was shot, then right-clic (Mac) on the map, a text appears to confirm the geotag and the gps missing datas are applied to the photo. It works only for one photo, even if you select a group only one image will be geotagged. Drag the photos on the map won't work, till the 2021 version ?!?

I found the same thing as you Subias. To geotag more than one photo I used the method you described to tag the first one then copied the GPS field from the EXIF Metadata tab. Select the remaining photos from that location and paste in the GPS data. It will be applied to all the selected images.
It would be nice if the program recognized the entire selection when tagging multiple images.

Good morning everyone. Thank you for testing.
Yes, to geotag a photo I do the same, and then, in Browse, I copy the GPS field content, select other photos taken at the same location and paste.
For the search issue, maybe I figured out how to do it. The problem seems to be related to the laptops touchpad. It seems that, to make the map scrolling to the searched location, I have to tap twice on the touchpad or click twice the touchpad button. If I connect a normal mouse to the laptop, I simply click once and the map scroll.
So, this is what I tried:
Using the touchpad
- Tap or click once on the Search field to activate it
- Type in the location I want to reach
- A popup with list of locations appears
- Tap or click once to select the correct location. Nothing happens.
- Repeat the search
- Tap or click twice on the popup. The map scrolls to the selected location.
Using a physical mouse:
- Click once on the popup. The map scrolls.
I tried the same in my Surface tablet. If I tap once on the screen the map moves. If I use a virtual touchpad, I have to tap twice on it to make the map scroll.
The map search is the only place where I need to tap twice with the touchpad. In any other module or search, it is enough to tap once.
I will do more test tonight.

Are there any Windows settings for the touchpad that could be affecting things?

I don't think.
I've never had any problems in any other software, including Lightroom 6 and Capture One Trial0 -
You'll have to talk with support about this. I'm out of ideas why it would be that way. I have noticed that the UI does not always respond properly to touchpad taps. There are times when I will tap on the Edit widget, it will highlight but the program remains in browse. It happens with other UI elements as well but as far as I can tell it happens randomly, there isn't any pattern I've been able to identify.

In my case it happens always. I'll try to contact the support.
Thank you
