2020 printing - wrong print dimensions
I just tried printing an 8"x10" print on an 8.5" x 11" page using the new 2020 print module.
I selected letter size paper, picked my paper type, then chose 8"x10" for the print area. It printed with nice colour accuracy but the size was off by a considerable amount. The print measured 7.5"x9.75" which would leave a noticeable uneven white border if I put it under an 8"x10" mat.
Has anyone else noticed this behaviour?
Here's a screenshot of what my print module settings were set to.

I don't see anything wrong with your settings. If you can get a scan or photo of the bad print, I would send it and the screenshot above to On1 tech support for them to take a look at.

Rick, one setting that I didn't pay particular attention to, because I didn't think it would matter in this case, is the drop down menu for 'Fitting'. My photo was cropped to 4x5 ratio and since I was printing 8"x10" the crop should exactly match my selected print area. However, I just tried toggling between 'fit' and 'fill' options and the preview image does change a bit (shows more in the long dimension) when I select fill instead of fit (fit is the default). The width doesn't seem to change in the preview and the printed image is only 7.5" high so something is definitely off.

It's great that On1 is trying to add a print module, but for a simple 8x10 with a white border, I think I'd rather just Export it. If the export looks good, then I'd just send it to the Printer and be done with it.

yeah, I would normally use QImage Ultimate because I know it will come out exactly like it should, but I thought I would test out the new print module. If it worked, it would save a couple steps for doing quick prints. Looks like they've still got lots of bugs to work out on this (can't do borderless prints either).

Peter, I'm having the same problem. I checked the known issues list for the 2020 release and it's not there. I just submitted the problem to tech support. Waiting for a reply.

Patience guys - I have heard that this is now become a 'known bug' and that the team are on it and will be sorting this out asap.

OK, my 2 cents. I want to print on A3 paper, choose either "fill" or "fit" and ON1 just prints an A4 on the A3 paper. I cannot use the full paper size. Even if I try to fool the program by choosing A2 as paper size I still end up with an A4 print..........................

Best advice since the latest release is to send in a ticket.
The more info we give, the better it is for the team to help us with a solution.0 -
Dave,
There are so many problems with the print-module, like the useless switching between inches and metric, the arbitrary choice of image sizes by the program when changeing image print-sizes, assigning absurd print sizes to an image, incorrect display of image size (width=height on print pane but width=2*height on display) the inability to fill and/or fit, impossibility to print larger than A4 image size regardless of paper size (look at the screen shot, where I want A3 paper and fill, the program decides on a square format but displays a rectangular and I cannot extend the image size beyond the shown value), and so on and so on. What shall I write as a ticket, apart from "utterly unusable and unfit for a program with those pretensions"?
I am disappointed and back to Qimage.
Take care
John

John, a report like that is totally useless to the engineers who will be responsible for fixing the problem. Describe all the problems you have found and the things you have tried to get around them. Include screen shots showing your printer settings through the OS as well as the ON1 print dialog settings you are using. The more info you can include the easier it will be for them to replicate the problem which is the first step they need to take to getting it solved. Also please read and include the information requested in this article: https://on1help.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360018405111-How-to-submit-a-problem-to-ON1-Tech-Support-A-Step-by-step-Guide

Brian,
I am sorry but in view of the amount of issues I consider the module not tested. I appreciate this is a community but I cannot invest the time to do a multi-page write-up. I have made my decision and will just continue to use Qimage. For myself question the need for a Raw Developer to include every feature possible. We have seen this with Qimage which started off as a good printing tool to the now bloated 18 Mb version which includes now editor and so on.
No offense,
Jean

No offense taken. My perspective is that problems that go unreported also go unfixed. :) I'm glad you've got a solution that works for you.

I too find 2020 print module Print Area non-intuitive but get better results now after some advice from support and painful and expensive trial and error. It's clunky but it seems to work well for me on MacOS:
Print only from Browse not Edit
Select "Paper Size" first, then in "Print Area" ignore the Fit and Fill options entirely and select Custom so it's highlighted.
Manually enter Width and Height dimensions, based on the mount opening or perhaps calculated assuming the border size you require and make sure Fitting dropdown is set to "Fill" Select "More" then "save as New Style" for quicker retrieval later.
I found doing the above and setting "Fitting" to "Fit" instead of "Fill" gave me wrong sizes too but with "Fitting" set as "Fill" it is now correct.
I have submitted a suggestion to improve the logic as the Print Size options are not intuitive to me.

A suggestion for those using Canon printers. (You also have to be using a Canon Camera)
If you don't already have it already download and install Canon's Digital Photo Professional ( currently on ver 4 ) then download and install Cannon's plug-in Print Studio Pro. You will then see a Plug-in Printing item under the File selection on the top menu bar. Some of you may have used this plug in in Lightroom it really works great for Canon printers and functions the same way in Canon's Digital Photo Professional.
This does mean that you have to export your photo before printing but personally I don't mind having to do that step.

I have also had problems printing on ON1 on OS X Catalina. It adamantly refuses to print to specified dimensions. I'm attempting to print on 13 x 19 paper with 1 inch borders (image 11 x 17) which is definitely possible on my Canon Pro-1. I select the custom option, input the correct dimensions, and the preview shows a much smaller image. "Fit" and "Fill" give slightly different results, but always wrong. I am using 2020, build 14.0.1.8289. It is hard to believe the program ever got out of testing with such an obvious bug.

I agree.
Try the following to see if they resolve the issue perhaps:
- IMPORTANT : Print only from Browse not Edit
In the ON1 Print Dialogue look at Page Size .. is what you expect?
- Top Right click on Setup. Make absolutely certain that the Paper Size (under Page Attributes) is the right one and go through the other options there. Is the printer trying to Scale to fit print size? Is everything you see there what you expect? I have seen sometimes ON1 Print Dialogue says it's printing on one size paper but under the printer Paper Size it is another incorrect one, hence this suggestion!
- Back on ON1 print Dialogue in "Print Area" ignore the Fit and Fill options entirely and select Custom so it's highlighted.
- Manually enter Width and Height dimensions and make sure "Fitting" dropdown is set to "Fill". Strangely it seems to sometimes need the largest dimension first so try 17 x 11 if 11 x 17 doesn't work
In addition I would add that once you have input your "Print Area".."Custom" size go to More and Save that size so you can retrieve it later if it is a size you will need another time. Assuming of course that the dimensions come out correct.
I wasted a load of expensive paper and ink trying to troubleshoot this initially and still no word from ON1 officially on a fix though but the above works for me now on macOS Sierra, High Sierra and Catalina

I have no problems printing if I print in portrait mode and not landscape mode - I simply put in my image size - eg 27.5cm x 16cm and it works fine.
When I try the same in landscape mode - it has a bit of a mind warp and does not work right.
I'm on a PC windows 10 system - the same workaround solved it on my wife's pc too.
But - if anyone is having problems please send in a ticket to help the team help us. If they don't know of a problem they cannot sort it out.
