I want to move away from lightroom. I'm currently on LR6 because I don't want to get locked into their ransomware. I've been trying things out and have come up with a bunch of questions. Yes, they have some tutorials on migrating the files, but I can't find anything about if you're used to doing this in lightroom, here's how to do it in PR2020.
I'm used to doing a lot of my mass edits in grid view in lightroom. I select a bunch of images, make changes to one and see how it affects the others. I don't see how to do this in PR. There is a sync all, but I think that applies to every edit, not just changes like bump the exposure up a stop, no matter what the exposure already was.
I've been trying out PR2020 on my travel computer, as I'm out of town for the holidays. Also my LR catalog on it is about 2,000 images rather than 700,000 images. Things got messy and I wanted to start over with my migration, but that isn't really working.
I tried to get back to the state of a fresh installation, so I did an uninstall and reinstall of photo raw.
When I tried to migrate my lightroom (6) catalog, and photo raw came up, all of my keywords were still in photo raw, even though I hadn't migrated any photos.
I find that the syncing of edits with lightroom is very spotty. There are some photos where they seem to bring everything in, and others where it doesn't even make the same basic correction to base exposure. I often bracket +/- two stops so it's easy to tell which ones get the basic exposure. That's also why I want to be able to make mass adjustments of groups, I want to bring all of my +2 down two stops and my -2 up two stops.
Why does the default migration from lightroom not include things like importing keywords, settings or making the comparison jpegs?
Do all the migration tools work with lightroom 6? Or just lightroom CC?
Some of the photos seem to be getting the development data, some not.
It has also gone through and imported everything from my home directory. How do I tell it which directories I want it to look at and which ones I don't? I've got directories of stuff I've downloaded off the net which I have no need to edit, and don't want in my photo browser.
It seems to import the star rating and the pick/reject, and while it has the same color flags (red, yellow, green, blue) those don't seem to be imported.
I'm reading the user guide and it doesn't mention an option for only importing new photos off of an SD card from my camera. When I'm on a trip, I don't delete my files from the cards until I get home, just to have an extra level of backup.
I can see two possibilities, if there is already a sidecar file, photo raw could just skip that file. Or, it could copy the new file off of the memory card of the camera to the new location (rather than just skipping it if its there) and overwrite the sidecar file.
I'm looking to buy photo raw (assuming it will run on my desktop computer at home). I read someplace that there isn't a way to back up my edits, like backing up a lightroom catalog.
It's hard to believe that such an important basic feature was missed.
My home computer is a mac pro 4,1, which I'm going to reflash to 5,1 so that I can run High Sierra, I don't know if On1 will actually run on it.
