Directory structure during import
I would like to reproduce the same default directory structure that Lightroom uses during imports. Does anyone know how to do that?
If I use the On1 default import setting I get a folder names that are numbers and not the normal formatted dates. Also, On1 does not seem to know where to save the photos if the directory already exist. It seems to be saving them in the folder selected in the browse mode instead of saving them in the correct dated folders. So far I'm having to do this manually.

Manually is the best way to do that. The options for folder structure during import are very limited.

My method is to use the Browser to create the folder where the photos will go. Navigate into that empty folder then in the Import dialog's Destination Location I choose the option Current Browse Location from the bottom of the menu. This way I can choose whatever name I want without being limited to the program's built-in choices.

Personally, I have a folder called 'New Pix' that's permanent and cataloged in On1. I import all of my photos to it. Once there I can cull, rename and group in subfolders, then just drag the subfolder wherever I need it to be.

Thanks guys. I hope On1 will improve on the import module in the future. I prefer to keep my photos organized by date, with the same folder structure as before. I've already been using this Lightroom folder structure for years and I don't really want to change that now.

You don't have to change your folder structure Hector. All you have to do is manage it yourself. Because either method above allows you to create & name the folder yourself you can keep the same naming structure you already have.

I understand what you are saying and I appreciate that. I just don't want to continue to do the folder structure and import manually. When I go on vacation for 2+ weeks, my wife and I shoot about 3,000+ photos. Creating the directory structure for that and sorting out what's goes in to each folder is a pain. Lightroom gets it done about two clicks. I'm trying to get rid of Lightroom, but On1 is not making the transition easy for me.

Perhaps you want to follow the method I've been following ever since I worked with Lightroom.
Every picture I take ends up in the structure YYYY/MM/DD on whatever drive I want.
All I have to do when importing is to point to the drive I want and select Day(YYY/MM/DD) under More.
Furthermore ON1 2020 allows me to joint several drives together if I want, LR was pickier on that. But then again I may have misunderstood your question completely.

Lieven,
Thanks. I followed your steps and it seems to work a little better since the photos are imported in the "correct" location. However, the date format and the structure are still not what I'm looking for. This is what I'm getting:
What I'm really looking for is this format:
I've been using this format for the last 14 years or so years and I don't really want to change it now. To me, it seems easier to read and it also makes it easier to find folders that have been accidentally dragged in to the wrong location (which I recently did).

Hector, if you create the folder yourself, either in the browser or in the Import dialog's Choose… option under Location, you can type in any name you want. I use that same date numbering system for my folder names too and this is what I do. It would be nice if the program were a bit more flexible in its options but this works in its place.

Hector,
perhaps you could request this feature for a further update. All you need is the programmers to create a folder in the form YYYY-MM-DD.
Let's hope they offer more possibilities in the import dialogue.

2020.1 Does not seem to offer a "Choose" or Current Browser Location Option - a step backward or am I missing something?
I am trying to use Import but it is frustrating. The alternative of opening the SD card and copying files to a catalogued folder is pretty slow too. Would import be faster?

It's still there, you just need to scroll down further.

Duh.. Thanks Brian. I am getting more comfortable with the ways of ON1 with the good and timely help from this forum.
Another hopefully simple question: Snapshot below shows that new folders, in this case El Dorado Canyon, show up in Finder but haphazardly, or with much delay, don't show up in Browse panel. Hitting G, going back and forth from edit, restarting, all to no avail. I lived with this for awhile, but now that I am more committed to ON1 as my DAM it is a pain (especially since my 81 year old body is now locked up at home and I have time ln my hands).

If you added the folder outside of On1, On1 will need to do one of its scans before it sees the new folder. If you make those folders inside of On1 they will show up much faster.

It can take a few seconds sometimes for items added via the Finder to show up in ON1. Even if you add the new folder from within ON1 it can take it a couple of seconds before everything shows up as it should. I force an update by switching to a different folder then switching back to the folder where the new folder was created.

Brian, I add a folder via browser thinking it best to give ON1 total control for cataloging and whatever. I have tried switching folders. It still takes an hour or so for it to show up with no particular rhyme or reason I can see. When adding by browser it immediately shows up in finder. I will try adding via finder and switching folders.
Still this goofy behavior should be fixed. I guess I will report it tho they must be aware of it.

I didn't highlight that I am adding a folder to an external SSD. The delay of new folder showing up in Browse is clearly associated with external SSD. Little or no delay when on the Mac drive.

All we can do at this point is report it to support and tell them what you've found. I've found odd behavior from the external ports on my Mac when ON1 is running. Things like the Wacom tablet going to sleep with the computer but not waking up again but only when ON1 is running. I wonder if the 3rd party libraries that are used are the cause.

Update. Support suggested the delay in newly added folders on external SSD showing up in Browse was tied to my wimpy Intel integrated GPU sharing memory with my MBP 13". So installed Sonnet external GPU Radeon 560 4GB memory. That seems to do the trick with folders showing up immediately in Browse. Lots of other stuff runs much better as well, Browse, rendering, no more artifacts, sliders...
For $300 I got a "new" computer which I think will do me just fine for quite a while. One hiccup, I had to swap an HDMI cable to the external GPU for a DSP cable in order not to lose my external monitor when Mac went to sleep and then woke up.

Sweet! Thanks for the update Jerry. Glad you got it all working again and better than ever. :)
