Watermark png file
I purchased a watermark file from Photologo. They sent a png file. I'm using On1 2020. I've played with the watermark function on the export module, and I like the size, inset, and opacity controls, but I don't like the limited choices of where. If I pick the lower left, and the size that I want, it brings the logo too close to the margin of the pic
Is there another way to manipulate this watermark file? I tried importing the png, thinking I could treat as layer and use transform tool, but I can't figure how to import the png. Import doesn't recognize it. I don't have Lightroom, so I can't use Adobe migrate tool.
What I'd really like is the option to drag the size and location to fit the print. But the export module doesn't give that flexibility.
Any help/advice? Sorry if I'm asking a stupid question.

Where did you try importing too? You could add it as a background or texture, but that would be limited as well.
Just add it as a layer. Once added, you can resize, move or rotate it wherever you like.
When using Export, if it's too close to the edge, then use it to make a new one with a bigger border that does work the way you like. Once you have that, then you can set it up and make presets in export for your different photo sizes.
The biggest drawback of using layers for your watermark is that you're always going to get a large onphoto file that you don't need. It's much more efficient if you can make Export work for you to avoid those files.

Thank you Rick. I appreciate your thorough response. When you say- "just add it as a layer", I'm getting stuck. I click the "+" button to add a layer in the edit mode, and navigate to where the png file is, it isn't recognized. How do I make that png recognizable to the layer mode, or import mode?
Thanks in advance. I always see your answers on these forums, and On1 is lucky you're there!

Thanks, Mark, glad to help.
I just tried a PNG to make sure I had it right and it worked fine. You should be able to navigate to it in browse mode and see it in your folder, if you do, it can be added as a layer. Just wondering if your watermark is in a supported format. As long as it meets these criteria, it should work...
In order to open an image in our programs (Legacy and current versions), your images must be in 8 or 16-bit RGB color and in a supported file type from a camera model listed below:
- TIFF
- PSD (saved with Maximum Compatibility)
- PSB (Photoshop Large Document Format)
- JPG
- PNG
- Apple HEIC

Ugh... the extension reads .png, but guessing it must not meet the requirements you mention. I'll check with the folks at PhotoLogo. Might be the bit rate/color issue.
Thank you Rick.

This morning I opened the supplied png files in Lightroom and converted to 16 bit tiffs. In On1 2020 v14.0.1, I am not able to see the tiffs, using either of these methods- File / Import, or develop/add layer. Is this a settings issue? Lightroom sees them as importable. Do I need to do some sort of On1 migration?
I just figured one thing out... If I choose under file, "browse desktop" I can see the file. Not sure how to make layer from this point. I opened in On1, exported as png, sRGB IEC61966-2.1. That didn't work. Tried again as tiff, adobe RGB. That didn't work. ugh!

What color space are they in? ON1 can only work with RGB files. Not sure if a png can be a grayscale or not but it's worth checking.

See my amended post. Which of the RGB choices should work. I've tried SRGB, and Adobe RGB. Neither work. Is it because the original file looks like a layer? The logo is on a "non-background".

Okay, figured it out. Open logo in file, browse desktop. Add my original photo to that as layer. stack the layers, logo over original photo, transform tool size of logo. Play with opacity. Done. Wow... what a journey. Not sure why "import", or add layer can't see these files, and only "browse desktop" can.
Thanks for the help from the forum. I appreciated the efforts of ideas to try.

Again, you haven't said where you're trying to import too, so we can't know if that will work or not.
If you can see the file in the browser then it should work properly as a layer. In addition to using the + to add a Layer, there are 2 other methods that you can try...
- Get your photo and the watermark together so that they can both be selected at the same time while in Browse mode. Make sure the photo is super selected (it will have a colored border while the other will be a white border) Then click the layers icon to open them. You should end up with each file on its own layer. (The super selected file determines the canvas size)
- Have your Photo already opened in Edit. Turn on Filmstrip view and find the watermark file. Drag it from the filmstrip and drop it on your Photo (above the filmstrip) it should be added as a layer.

Hi Rick-
I’m trying to import the png file into ON1 so that I can see/chose it in browse mode. So I’m trying to import into ON1. That’s the problem. I cannot see/chose the file in browse mode because I can’t get it there. The only way ON1 “sees” the png file is to open it under file, “browse desktop”. From there I can add my original photo as a layer....etc.
I’ve submitted a “plus member” ticket, as this does not seem correct in the workflow.

It sounds like you are using the File > Import… command. In it's Browse function you are telling the program to copy from one drive to the same drive. The Import feature does not work that way. It is designed to copy files from an SD card, either in a reader or the camera, to some location in your photos directory structure where you can then navigate to in the Browser.
You figured out the correct way to do it and that is to simply load the png file as a new Layer which can then be transformed and moved as desired.

Mark, you're not understanding the question. If you're using On1's import module (File:Import) that has no effect on your file what so ever. On1 doesn't need files to be imported to use them and all that does is copy files. On the other hand, if you're trying to import your file as a texture or background, then there may be an issue with the file type in which case we can test it. That's why I keep asking where you're importing to. Since you seem to be talking about the import module, just forget it, it doesn't apply to your problem at all.
If you can see the watermark on the Desktop, you should be able to see it anywhere. So my question now is what is the difference between your Desktop and your Photo folder? You should be able to Right-click and copy it to your photos folder. At that point, it should be visible and accessible from there. It's all very confusing, if it works in one place, it should work in the other.
