Since recent windows 10 update On1 PhotoRaw 2019.7 has slowed to a crawl
A few days ago I had a windows update and since then On1 PhotoRaw 2019.7 (13.7.0.8098) has slowed to a crawl. If I hit edit on an image it takes minutes before the photo is editable and the levels graph flashes black/white repeatedly.
I have checked:
- got the latest nvidia driver
- windows graphics settings has high performance for on1
- I only have one graphics card but it is selected for on1
I have Windows 1903, os build 18362.720 and I see there is a further update pending.
Even going from edit to browse, shows a saving settings dialogue for minutes before I get back to browse.
Any ideas?

This seems to happen from time-to-time after a Windows update. I'm on a Mac so I can't compare performance maybe Rick will have something to offer later today. In the mean time here is an older post from when this has happended in the past and it was a problem with the Windows update. It includes some links to Microsoft articles about that problem. It may offer you some guidance on where to look on the Microsoft site to see if others are having similar problem.

You could uninstall the Windows update. Many are still reporting issues with the latest update.

Thanks David, I was looking for that and couldn't find it.

One year on from my last W10 fiasco ( I initiated the post Brian refers to above) and here we are again with another W10 update, this time to OS Build 18363.720. What a pity On1 does not have a Linux version, never ever had any problems with a Linux OS, but Windows falls over at every possible update opportunity!!

It appears that although I have a general slow down in on1 (and not other software) it isn't as bad all the time as I originally reported. It seems only some images exhibit a very large slow down and not others. One I have is particularly bad and takes minutes to open. I wonder if anyone was prepared to try it in 2020 if I supplied the NEF and on1 file?

I’d be happy to take a look at it for you.

Here are the files involved and thanks for taking a look. When I open the file in browser it is ok. When I hit edit, the histogram flashes white/black for ages. If I try and change a mask in the effects is is REALLY slow. If I click on browse after edit, I get a saving settings dialogue that takes over 10 minutes to disappear.

It popped right up for me in the latest 2020 release. However, I'm on a Mac. Rick will probably check in later although I don't know if he has the latest Windows update yet.
Don't forget you can download the trial and check it out for 30 days before deciding to purchase or not. If you do, I recommend you tag all the images you edit just in case you decide to not upgrade as their edits will not be backwards compatible. This will make it easy to find just those photos you edited in 2020 so you can export them before returning to 2019.

Thanks for trying.

Martin,
Something is seriously wrong with this photo. I downloaded the three files into a non-catalogued folder. I selected it in browse and pressed D. It took ~16 seconds for the progress bar to finish and about the same again before I could zoom in. Now, and this is strange. Without editing anything I returned to browse and pressed D again. This time it took several minutes to show a black screen. I clicked on the image (black screen) and the cursor changed to the magnifying glass, and after another couple of minutes a zoomed image appeared. This occurred every time after this. I have no problems with 35Mb CR2 files. I run the latest build Windows 10 12GB with a Nvidia Gforce GTX 1060 6GB. Maybe support can shed some light on this.

I know Gerry. This only happens on a few files for me but when it happens they are uneditable. This started happening (for me) in the last week after a windows update. I have the same graphics card as you and the driver is up to date. My CPU isn't the fastest now but I have 32MB of RAM and in any case it just started happening recently and I haven't changed any machine parts.I have on1 as high performace app and only having one graphics card I don't believe I need the nvidia change everyone suggests but did it ages ago and it is still in place.I haven't contacted support as yet.
BTW, Thanks for trying and confirming my issue.

What happens if you trash your ExportCache? There was a slowdown problem with 2020 that was traced to it. Deleting the cache returned performance to normal. A bug was patched in the next release that solved the problem. It is possible that bug is in the 2019 version. This might help.
You'll find the cache at C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\ON1\ON1 Photo RAW 2019\ExportCache. Quit the program, trash the folder, then relaunch the program.

Thanks for suggestion Brian but that made no difference.

In fact it makes it worse. The photo viewing window now flashes white/black as well as the histogram and it is even slower.

I am not able to open the NEF file at all. I've downloaded it 3 times and it won't work in On1, Irfanview or Windows photos. Irfan says it's not a valid RAW file.

Well, that sucks. I'm sorry. You said you have the latest Nvidia driver; did that come from the Windows update or from Nvidia and have you checked its version against what the Nvidia site offers? Windows updates have been known to roll back video card drivers.

Photoshop CS6 will not open it either. Photo RAW 2020 does not have a problem though. I am even able to export it. Weird.

The Microsoft Photos W10 App opens the NEF file in milliseconds!

I have the latest Ndivia driver direct from Nvidia via Nvidia Experience.
PS probably doesn't open it because it is from a D500 and I think CS6 is too old for that.Capture NXD has no problem with the file.
If I delete the on1 file the nef opens fine in PR and I can edit it straight away.

I also deleted the on1 file but it made little difference. I then deleted the photo with ON1 thus also deleting the database entry and restored the NEF. Voila, opens fast and no problems at all. Something must be corrupt in the database, placed there with the original .on1.

Deleting the files in on1 and then restoring them does nothing to help me. Even deleting the files in on1, exiting, restoring the files and restarting on1 does not help. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Pity, it was worth a try though. BTW, I only restored the NEF, not the other two.
