Prevent overwrite option in export missing
Looks like with the newest update the option "Prevent Overwrite" in export has gone missing.
Anyone else seeing this? OS is Windows 10.

The other time when this "Prevent Overwrite" function is a pain is when you deliberately want to replace an existing file with a new version with the same file name.

That's like having Smart Albums, then having them removed and being told to go vote to have them added back in again.

It's a backward step in my view because you were given a warning that your existing file would be overwritten. I am at the moment using the map view to add locations. It is a nuisance now to export the file and then delete the old one and then renaming the new one.

It's my opinion that this is a bug and not a deliberate change but I could be wrong. Just report it to support so they can tell us this is how it is now or get it fixed.

Brian Lawson This is unfortunately not practicable. I take my photos in RAW and JPEG. After the import about 20% of the pictures are processed and exported as JPEG again. This has worked great so far.
Now I have to rename the pictures to the original filename after the export. This is cumbersome and time consuming. Please tell me why it is better for the software to rename the images afterwards than to export them.
To me this seems like an artificial, unnecessary restriction for a purpose I do not know.1 -
I'm seeing it too on the Mac OS. I've reported it and you should too. :)

Same here. :)

Apparently, export creates a new copy if the file already exists. This is safe against overwriting, but you cannot skip if the fle already exists.

It would be sensible if there were "Save" and "Save As" options, just as in the normal file menu.
If you chose "Save" and there was already a file in existence, you would receive the "File already exists - do you want to replace it?" prompt.

Just tested an export with the same name, as Frank indicates the exported file has the word "Copy" added to the name and adds a 1,2,3 etc for each additional save with the same name. This is on Win 10 OS .
This is different behavior than before so I am guessing On1 made this change on purpose but I will submit a ticket anyway.

Yup, it's probably a deliberate change.
It's a bad change.
The point of the option as it existed in prior versions of Photo Raw is to make it easier for people who would frequently tweak an edit, export, check the export, then re-export if necessary. The option to overwrite the old version without complaining made this much less of a hassle. (Hence the Save As behavior described in an earlier post is explicitly a bad thing; if you go through a tweak-export-check cycle several times, having it ask each and every time if you want to overwrite the old revision is a major pain.)
I understand why some people want protection from accidentally overwriting an old revision, and I have no problem with that as an option. That's the way the older Photo Raw versions worked. Making that protection mandatory is a bad change.

To do anything in the background without telling you what is going on is bad.
It sounds like files are protected against being overwritten, but it would be nice to know what is happening.

I'm hoping it gets changed back to what it was as well. However, it's not a deal breaker in my view.

Reported it but no reply yet

Anyone got an answer on this yet? I just want to know deliberate or not.

Just received a response from Stevie in support. This change was intentional by On1.
This is the response:
"We removed the option that was in the Export pane to 'Overwite without Warning'
This is current functionally of the app.
If you would like to see this changed back, please visit our ON1 Photo RAW page for feedback and feature requests where you can submit ideas that are then voted on by the community for possible inclusion in a future release."0 -

lol Rick I saw your post about being blocked -- you must have said "That's like having Smart Albums, then having them removed and being told to go vote to have them added back in again." days ago. But I agree. I have decided I can live with it but wonder why anyone on their team thought it was a good idea. ( I see now you said it 4 days ago --too funny )

David, it's just one more strange programming decision to add to the list. There are many now and apparently, they are all done on purpose. I love On1 and the people who work there, but honestly, it's these little quirks that keep Photo Raw from being a top contender. Hey. I'm just a customer, what do I know.

I need the old function to update my jpeg files which are grouped to the raw image files.
0 -
That function was removed from the program. You'll have to rename the newly exported copy so it can overwrite the original to regain your grouping.

I can't tell you that it is better, I don't think it is. I prefer the old way too. However, I'm just another user like yourself and have no control over what the company decides to do.
You don't have to use ON1's browser to do the renaming, just have it open the folder in your OS's file browser, select all the files with the word copy in their names and rename them by removing that word. There are utilities that make it easy to do that.

If in the same folder as the original you have to delete the original before you delete the "copy" in the name. I's a real nuisance. I have still got lightroom 6 and I am only using On1 as a plugin and after this I find I am using it less..
