Resize greyed out
AnsweredWhen I go into OnOne 2020 from Photoshop or Lightroom, the Resize feature is greyed out.

How are you accessing On1?
For Photoshop it looks like you need the Automate menu to access Resize (Page 10).
From what I see, if you use Edit In in Lightroom and select the Edit modules (Develop, Effects, Portrait) you'll be able to move between them. Looks like Resize needs to be selected separately.

You beat me to it. :)

Is it right? I never tried this.

According to the User Guide it is. Resize must be called specifically. The plug-ins do not allow switching between different modules of the program and resize is its own module.

On my computer, Resize is not even available as a selection.

Now why on earth would On1 not include Resize right there along side of Develop, Effects and Portrait? Who would know they have to go to the Automate menu? It's not intuitive and On1 needs to fix that.

The person who would know is the one who read the guide. Especially since we suggested that first.

It is in the User Guide, Chapter 1, page 10. The plug-ins are designed to talk to just one of the program's modules. If you want to be able to switch back and forth between different modules you need to use the program as a standalone. Why it is in one menu and not another could be entirely due to how Adobe's plug-ins work.

I judge applications by how reliant users have to be on long wordy User Guides. The best applications are ones that are intuitive enough that tasks are apparent, simple and easy to initiate - where the UI is crystal clear. There is no reason why an engineer couldn't make a menu selection do anything, including jumping to a different module. No excuses please.

You're Welcome. Glad we could help.

I've read the guide, gone back and searched just for Resize and nowhere do I find an answer to this: I have a photo opened, using ON1 as a standalone. I've applied my edits, the shot is ready to go. And the Resize button is still greyed out. So, there is no issue with PS or LR here for me. It's just a shot opened straight up in ON1. I've found nothing at all on the web to explain this, help with it or even address it. If it's right there in the User Guide I wish someone would show it to me. Little ticked at ON1 and their direct lack of support when I've written them before.

Hi Michael,
Which OS version are you running?
Can you show us a screenshot of your desktop showing where you're at when you want to use the Resize command?
Also, which version of the ON1 program are you running?

What file type is it? I'm not at home to check, but I think onphoto files don't resize. If that's what it is, then you'd have to export first, then resize.

I just tested this and.onphoto files can be resized the same as any other file type.

Ok, well, I know I've had this condition before but can't remember what triggered it. It may be possible that resize is not available while an export is in progress. Once the export finishes then resize is available again.

Hey guys,
Thanks for both of your responses. Attaching a screen grab below. Just a shot from an old iPhone from years ago that I found and goofed around with, but wanted to see how large I could reasonably make such a small file (2.6 MB originally). I've tried everything I can think of: exported it as every available file type available and tried with each of them, tried dropping them into the app, tried opening them from Browse, made sure that there wasn't any unfinished business like an incomplete crop.
I've gone back and tried it with other, larger files as well, just in case the tiny file size was an issue. Same results.
Oh, forgot to mention: Running latest version of Catalina and latest of ON1 Photo Raw.
Thanks in advance for any ideas you have.

There's no reason I can think of why the Resize module should not be available for you. That means something funky is going on with your program or system. I would start by resetting the program's settings files. Press the Shift key while the program is loading to see the dialog for resetting them. I would start with the macOS 10.15 Upgrade button, then the Delete Settings option. If neither of those fix the problem try the last option and if that still doesn't fix it, reinstall the software.
Finally, if none of those options works let me know and I'll give you a script for completely removing the program and all its files from your system so you can reinstall the program from scratch. This will not affect your photos or their sidecar files so your edits will be saved.

Brian,
That magical dialogue box you attached in the message above has fixed the issue. I'll remember that if anything ever goes hinky again. I've opened several files and they all are able to be resized.
Thanks a million.
Best,
Mike
