What is the source of the images that are not being displayed? What colorspace are they in? What do you see in their place? If they are not in an RGB colorspace you'll see a rectangle with a diagonal bar through it like a do not enter sign. In that case you'll need to resave them in an RGB colorspace.

If you've just added a catalog that will take a lot of CPU until it finishes building. It takes away CPU time from the images rendering in the Browser. You can check the catalog status by hovering over the header.

You could try refreshing the preview on one of the photos. If that makes it render, the others will show up eventually.

You should also check your graphics card and make sure it's set up correctly. Check this article...
