There is a problem with the latest release of Photoshop. It will not open files that are sent to it from either ON1 or even from Lightroom from what I'm reading. I suspect those are not the only 2 programs having this problem. Support suggests reinstalling ON1, it is possible the Ps update messed with the plug-ins somehow.

Don't bother reinstalling On1. I have done this and didn't solve the problem of Photoshop opening when called from On1 but without a file. I haven't tested Lightroom but DxO Photolab and Finder do work.

Re-installing the previous version of Photoshop restores normal operation, so not a case of On1 losing the ability to send a file to Photoshop but more that Photoshop no longer recognises the file location information that On1 passes to it. Without knowing what On1 sends and what Photoshop expects difficult to check this out.

I have tried various combinations of un-installing and re-installing of On1 and Photoshop, none of which allow the latest version of Photoshop to be called from On1.

I have reported back to support that re-installing did not work, and asked them to confirm that someone in support has actually been successful in passing a file from production version of On1 to latest version of Photoshop on Mac running Catalina.

I have a suspicion that for strange things like this that the standard support response is

    - reset preferences, then if that doesn't work

    - re-install

without actually doing any tests at their end to see if user reporting a general problem.

Fortunately I run Time Machine so I have just reloaded my On1 preferences/presets/LUTS etc and Photoshop preferences after the re-installs (and having confirmed that re-installs don't fix problem), so got back to where I was quite quickly. But all this resetting/reinstalling as a diagnostic must be a real pain for someone with less computing experience who can't work out this sort of shortcut.

Update to my issues with sending a file from On1 to Photoshop.

Support have just let me know that the problem was caused by update to Photoshop but that it will be fixed in On1 2020.5.

Not sure if that helps with layer problem though, unless there is a general issue with information being passed between the applications which 2020.5 will address as well, or whether that needs to be dealt with by Adobe.
