Compare Mode Slider Frozen - Won't move off center
Updated to the newest 2020.5.1 on the Windows 10 machine this morning, and discovered this. It was working before the update.
When I try to look at my image with this tool the tool starts, but I am unable to move the slider off dead center where it starts. It closes properly.
Is anyone else experiencing this? This W-10 machine is more than adequately powered, and Task Manager indicates things are "quiet" on the system, so it is not an obvious resource or performance issue.
Thanks in advance

I'm on Win 10 and it's working for me. I can even move it by clicking anywhere on the line.

Deborah, Is the image you are working on cropped? If so that is the problem. For me Compare works on uncropped images but once they are cropped it locks up. And if you are cropped off center the compare line will be towards one edge or the other. Not sure if this is a bug or by design I have never submitted a support ticket for it because I don't use compare mode much.

Rick, have you tried it on a cropped image?

Yes, David has it correct. My image is cropped. Testing on an un-cropped image works correctly. I don't use it a lot either, but then, I do use it from time to time.
thank you!

Hi, I am on Windows 10 and the slider is moving for me. However, the mouse blinks rapidly when it is moved on to the dividing line, so this looks suspiciously "buggy".

I just checked with a cropped image, still works for me.
Roger, yes, the cursor flickers a bit, but still works ok.

Odd -- compare hasn't worked for me on cropped images for several versions of the software. Fully functional on uncropped images --- Win 10. I just went in and tested --- some crops it seems to work OK and Other crops will lock up the compare mode. I'll have to test some to see exactly what type of crop locks it up. The one I just locked up was a crop to 8X10 cropped in about 10% and moved the crop window over to the bottom right of the corner and compare will not work.

It was working for me until I tried David's 8x10 crop to bottom right; now it won't move.

OK, this is odd. In Compare mode with the Crop Tool selected I can move the slider. Apply the crop and it freezes in place.

Ah, yes if you do that sequence it freezes for me too. In addition, once you've done that it stops working even without that sequence.
Now mine is broken too!
I'll try a reinstall. Maybe that will reset whatever got stuck.

So a reinstall or clear settings didn't help.
What I'm seeing is when the slider is locked up, if I select a valid ratio from the list, then it starts working again.
It seels to be either Freeform or Original Ratio that's causing the problem. (Well, for me.)

So bottom line do you guys think this is a bug or as designed and should we all report it?

I think it's a bug.

Yup, bug.
I bet Brian already reported it. We don't all need to.

OP here... I'm adding this to this thread because of how interlinked Crop and Compare seem to be here. This information might need to be added to an earlier bug report if it can be validated.
When I returned to my current image/project this morning PR had completely "forgotten" my crop work of yesterday. This is the same image I was working on yesterday when the Compare issue raised itself to me. Last night I clicked [Done] to "save" my work on this image and return to Browse. This morning when I returned to Edit this image the crop is gone. I can still see the Clone Stamp work I did to eliminate some distractions, and I can see where the crop fit neatly into the corner, but that area that was formerly cropped off is now back in the frame.
This image was cropped as a 1x1 aspect ratio, but the original image was a 2x3 "original ratio" (Nikon D750 NEF) image. When I activated the Crop tool it opened in "Freeform". If I select "original ratio" it goes to 1x1 instead of 2x3.
Is anyone else seeing this? I suspect that it is the Crop tool that is behind all of this mischief, whether in the Compare Mode or Crop.

Deborah, I haven't seen my crop disappear BUT I am seeing the issue with trying to go back to original ratio. It won't do that now it seem to just expand the current ratio as far as it can and center it, you have to hit the reset button on the crop tool to get it to go back to original ratio. I think this must be a new crop bug introduced when they fixed the last crop bug.

Deborah, have you updated to 2020.5.1 yet? It fixes the problem with crops disappearing when you try to change one or when you click the Done button.

Reset works for me. It returns to Freeform mode with the crop expanded to the image's edges.

Brian reset works but if you select a ratio say *X10 and crop in a bit and select apply then select "Original Ratio" the crop stays at 8x10 but expands as far as it can. I'm pretty sure when you used to select "Original Ratio" the crop box used to extend to all edges of the original image as you would expect with "Original Ratio".

I agree, original ratio is not working. The only time it actually gives you the original ratio is before you click Apply. Once a new ration is selected and Apply is clicked, it becomes the new original ratio.

Ah, you have to apply the crop then come back into it before choosing Original Ratio. Yes, that option used to select the whole image area.

I haven't yet, but I will write all this up for support and send a link to this discussion. Anything else that needs to be added regarding the Crop tool?

Brian, Nothing else I can think of.

Yes, I updated to latest update yesterday. Even with the current issues I am very glad to have Crop better behaved, imperfect as it might be in some cases.

Hearing back from On1, the 'Original Ratio' problem was there before. In patching that, the 'Crop Reset' problem happened. Now that Crop Reset is fixed, the Original Ratio problem is back.
In any case, On1 is aware of it.
