Windows 10 2020 "optimizing" SSDs
Just a another Windows thing.
If your version is 2020 and you have SSD's, Windows 10 is trying to optimize them constantly. I'm not sure if this could impact performance of On1 PR or not but still worthwhile turning off scheduled optimization for SSD drives anyway. ( you can optimize them manually )
This is one link with an article that describes the issue.

It easy to correct just right click on your drive in explorer, select properties, select the "Tools" tab then select "Optimize" Then select "Change Settings". From there you can either Turn off disk optimization or "Choose Drives" to deselect your SSD drives if you prefer to let Windows optimize your HDDs.

Thanks for the info David.
SSD drives should never be defragmented or optimized. The SSD firmware intentionally distributes the file randomly across the device to spread the wear on its cells.

I agree Brian.

There might be something more than that as my SSDs get trimmed once a week on Windows version 2004 (OS Build 19041.450)
SSDs never get defragmented or optimized and mine still aren't only "trimmed".

Trimming is different than optimizing or defragmenting. That is a feature of the SSD's firmware too.

Don, Not sure if this is what you are saying but the optimization does run if you have it on, but Windows "forgets" it was done and reports never run and Needs Optimization ( image below ) . That's why it does it repeatedly. I saw a way a week or so ago at looking at one of the system logs ( at least I think it was a system log ) and I could see by the log the optimize was occurring cyclically on my SSDs

It looks like the OS knows that the SSD should not be optimized but it isn't determining that until after the optimization process starts. In other words, it starts the optimization process then it discovers that it's working with an SSD so it doesn't do the optimization. Hence it never gets run but always needs to be run.

David, it has always showed Needs optimization but if you click on Optimize it will trim. But it will then show Optimized after trimming.
I'll post a screen shot tomorrow so you can see what happens.0 -
I believe you about the trim but windows is trying to "optimize" your ssd
Here's an article re using event viewer to see what's going on.
I just did a complete reinstall of windows and turned Optimization off right away so nothing shows for defrag in my event log

I see what you mean because on reboot it says it needs optimization but because i run Samsung Magician it only Trims because of the hooks into to OS:
But I will turn it off until the fix comes.
