The difference between medium and standard previews.

When you create a catalog you're asked if you would like minimal, medium or standard previews.  What's the difference between medium and standard and how do I get large?

I'm sure glad they don't sell eggs in medium and standard.  Because I also like my eggs in 'large'.

  The difference is in the size of the preview image generated for the Browser to use and the amount of disk space needed to store the PerfectBrowseCache.

  Hi Brian,

  I had already read that document and didn't see an answer to my question.

   

  What I'm referring to - when you right click on a folder and select 'catalog', you're prompted for the size of the preview and given three options.  I understand the minimal and medium options, but I don't know what the third option 'standard' means.

  I want the largest preview possible given the amount of disk space I have available.  Should I select medium or standard?

  I can't tell you that answer. I don't know how many photos you have, the size of your RAW files, or the amount of disk space you have to work with. That is why the article I linked has a table of expected space needs.

  

  If you want more specific details on the differences between the image sizes you'll have to ask support. Or, set up a test folder with a handful of images in it and Catalog it repeatedly using each of the different size options and see what the affect on the PerfectBrowseCache size is.

  Hi Brian,

  Actually you did tell me the answer.   I did not notice previously that the words Minimal, Medium and Standard appear in the column headings of that chart.  And clearly 'Standard' must generate the largest previews based on the total disk space required.  So 'standard' is the answer to my original question.
