There's no way that I know of. The program does not allow the positioning of Effects or Local Adjustments, only Layers.

That's what I was thinking, but it doesn't hurt to ask.  Thanks for the reply.

You can move it a little if you use the scale slider. I do that often in order to get just the right area of the sky that I want.

    Thanks Rick.
I'll give it a try next time.

That would be a nice addition, but, let's see if that is added sometime...

It might be handy, but it's not really neccesary.

With Textures and Sun Flares, if the filter doesn't allow enough adjustment then just add it as a layer instead and you can do anything with it.

Both otpions are available, just pick the one you need for the job at hand.

Anyone know how to make a texture a layer?

You could add a Layer, then apply a texture to it. Or, you could load the texture image directly as it’s own Layer.

Further to Brians post, to add a texture to it's own layer, just click the + to add a layer and a window will let you select what you want to add. Your texture could be in 1 of 3 places...

    • On1 extras
    • Your imported extras
    • The browser with the rest of your photos

You'll need to navigate to where ever your texture is then just select it.

Thanks, it does get me there with added work. I would rather just control the texture in the texture menu. It's more like adding an image than turning it into a texture using blending options which kind of defeats the beauty of the textures tool IMO.

Yes, but that's what you asked how to do.

Yes and no, we are not adding a texture layer as originally implied. We are adding an image layer and turning it into a texture (like I can do with just about every other program). Thus my comment. Hopefully, they will address this in the future.

That's how Photo Raw works. There is nothing to address.

Maybe it's just me but, I could not reproduce the subtle variations that come out of the On1 texture on a layer vs as you suggest adding an image and turning it into a texture using blending options. So we will just have to agree to disagree.

If you want your texture image to become an actual Texture use the Extras Manager and add it from there to the Textures tab. Now it will appear in the Effect's Textures panel's list with all the options that comes with them.

What's confusing is this statement " texture on a layer vs as you suggest adding an image and turning it into a texture".

"Adding an image" is the definition of "texture on a layer" as far as Photo Raw is concerned. They are the same thing. The only other way to do it is to use a Texture Filter which doesn't use layers, and you've never mentioned that method at all.

I think the problem is that you're using incorrect terminology as far as Photo Raw is concerned while we try to answer using the correct Photo Raw terminology.

So, your original question... "Anyone know how to make a texture a layer?" The answer is: Yes, by adding an image.

Now, if you can't get the result that you want, that's a whole different question than what's in this thread.

This thread was about having more control of the texture tool other than scale and mirroring. It was about being able to scale it and then move it left right up down to get to the part of the texture you wanted over your image. The confusion was when you erroneously said you can add a texture as a layer. In the context of the texture tool, that was incorrect. Just look at the original post and you can see why your first post saying just add a layer led to my confusion. I still think more control would be nice within the texture filter. It's a good filter, just a little short of great. Consideriing the original thread I'm not the only one that thinks that way.
