On Friday (Oct 23) Nathan said they were very close to releasing 2021.

But will there be a bug fix release for 2020.5? That's what I would like to know.

There always has been a final release before year-end, but no one has said anything about it yet for this year.

Given the recent spate of new videos and zoom meetings, it feels as though the launch will be soon.  But, only the people at ON1 will know for sure.

Meanwhile, Luminar has already released a beta of its new product to influential vloggers, even though it's not due out for a couple of months. I wonder who is going to win this war?

Adobe also released LR 10...Possibly the most unusable version so far... :)

I don't use Photo Shop, but there has recently been a flurry of frantic messages, (circulating around my part of the Camera Club community), concerning the Photoshop 22.0.0 release.  I'm not sure of the exact details, but a number of the messages advise Users to disable the GPU for processing options, and they also complain about crashes and freezes.

So, perhaps all is not currently well with Photoshop too?

I rarely use PS David Price, but, it works as expected for me. There is a long-standing bug regarding preferences when updating. Generally, a reset of the preferences on startup fixes most such issues. I also have Affinity, so, not a major issue for me is PS has problems :)

LR 10 is bad...Regardless. The Adobe forums are full of that. I reverted back to 9 and all is well since I don't need any new features from 10 or PS for that matter. The sky replacement in PS, although the UI is a lot better implemented, is not really a comparison for Luminar 4.

Looking at the forums I realised the date/time import bug is more than 8 years old in LR :)

Just found this in a new email (Oct 28)

The new ON1 Photo RAW 2021 is coming next week!

It's the most specific statement yet.

So much for an October release date as originally promised.

Release dates are always targets, not contractual promises. As Rick mentioned above, the company has announced it will be released next week. Or would you prefer they release it knowing there are bugs that still need to be ironed out?

So much for an October release date as originally promised.   Now the web site states that you have until Friday to pre-order (this is written on Saturday 10/31).  and release is late October or early November.   Hopefully with the delay, it will be error free

Most software will have bugs and nuances William Reese IMO (excepting if I am writing the code :P). The real issue is always how those bugs impact you. For example, I removed LR 10 within a few hours and reverted back to LR 9 since I had issues with LR 10 that were not acceptable. There are other bugs and nuances in LR which I can work around, so, I can ignore those.

I have issues with the current ON1 which makes it unusable for me and look forward to the 2021 update to see if that works for me.

Release dates are tricky for most companies and I know from past experience that any big events force premature software releases like in the case of Adobe currently (yes, there are issues in PS as well). Microsoft also does the same as also others including Apple.

I also paid up for the ON1 2021 upgrade to support the product even though it is not usable for me in the current version, but, no hurry for the formal release.

There is one huge difference between ON1 and other companies...Support and customer orientation.

Personally, I'd rather that ON1 did not 'rush to market'.    I'd rather they spent a few extra days, or weeks even, to make sure that the new release is as good as it can be.    Besides, for my needs PR 2020.5.1. is running well enough, and I'm more than happy to keep it running for a little bit longer.

As the OP of this thread, I guess I have to agree: best not to rush

My main grouse with On1 2020 was losing a lot of edits when I bought a new laptop with a larger SSD and transferred my more recent photo files to it from an external SSD. This has been a much noted issue, and one that On1 Support seem to have thrown their hands up on and the engineers have not been able to resolve. In all fairness to those who don't plan to move to On1 2021, I do hope they get a fix!

It's still Friday on Sunday on the ON1 site :)

Still no sign of a bug-fix update to 2020.5. I wonder if we will get one, or that we will be forced to purchase 2021. If they fix the keyword issues and the default search always reverting to current folder, then I'm fine with 2020.

If ON1 continues to follow the established pattern, (that they have followed in the past). Then, yes there will be an update to PR 2020. But, it will only be released sometime, (possibly several months), after PR 2021 has launched.

Understandably, at the moment ON1's 'development team' is finalising the new software. So, I would doubt that they currently have any spare resources, to focus on what will soon be an obsolescent product.
