2020 migration to 2021
Is there a an update process to go from 2020.5 to 2021? Do we have to uninstall 2020?
-
The update process is to install 2021 and let it migrate your old 2020 stuff. The installer will give you the option to uninstall previous versions if you want. Personally, I would wait until you are satisfied that 2021 is running to your satisfaction and you are at a point where will not want to use 2020 anymore.

You should be able to just install 2021 alongside 2020 and process will copy presets, LUTs etc from 2020. There is an option to delete older versions if this is unchecked then you will still have 2020 installed just in case.
This worked for me on Mac.

Thanks for the responses. I received the email with the code for 2021 as I’m a Plus member, but didn’t try it as I saw many people had issue with the activation.
I’m anxious to try it, but want to wait to avoid any issues.

The program will still run for 14 days as a Trial version and they should have the activation server issue cleared up sometime tonight.

I think the activation issue has been fixed. Got a message from support that it was and I was able to activate on my laptop and desktop machines.

Did they really reduce the installs from 5 to 2?

I just installed 2021. It did not prompt me to uninstall 2020.5. If I do want to remove 2020, I want to make sure it do it correctly and not leave any orphan files behind.
Also, I did install the Water Color Brushes successfully, but I get errors when I try to install the Preset Collection. Has anyone installed it successfully?

George, are you a Mac or Windows user? I have procedures, I just need to know which one to give you.
And, yes, the number of active computers using the software has been limited to 2. This does not mean you cannot install it on more than systems, only that 2 of them can be signed in at any one time.

Thanks for clarifying Brian...I’m a Windows user

There's a whole thread on just this problem James. It seems there is a problem with the installer that we'll have to wait for the company to fix. Many people have reported it.

I had te same question as the one posted by George Seremetis about uninstalling version 2020.5 and read the answer from Brian Lawson.
But I am curious whether a standard Windows 10 uninstall, would yield a satisfactory result ?0 -
No, it leaves pieces behind. My steps catch those pieces.

Thank you Brian, my curiosity is satisfied again.

I believe this is related to the topic so I'm putting it here - please tell me if I need to create a new topic.
I have installed ON1 Photo Raw 2021 and want to uninstall old versions. The problem is the 2021 installer doesn't give me options to uninstall old versions (I'm sure because I've gone through this several times and the option is not there) and the uninstall program does not appear in the Windows 10 add/remove program list in the Control Panel. Not for any old versions 2019, 2020, and the one I've just installed, 2021! I used Brian's guide above to remove the 2019 and 2020 versions manually. I'm just rather surprised there appears to be no way to uninstall the program I just installed, 2021!
I would try to do a clean install, but I don't want to risk losing all the presets, etc, I've organized "just so", and there seems to be no guarantee the uninstall program would appear anyway. Any clues for what would be happening here, or any way to do a clean uninstall safely so I can get the uninstaller to appear in the add/remove program list? Thank you.Cheers,
Jane

Are you sure? I have all of my On1 programs listed.

Very sure - apps sorted alphabetically
Or by publisher

As far as I can tell, the only thing the uninstaller does is remove the ON1 Photo RAW 20xx application folder and its contents. Everything else that gets installed with the program and the data it creates while being used appears to be left behind. That may or may not be intentional; without more info from the company we can only speculate.
Jane, if you've followed my procedure then you should be good to go. There may be a piece or two left in some obscure place I don't know about but that would be minor.
I just installed 2021 on my Windows 10 VM and was surprised that it did not offer to remove previous versions as others have reported. On the Mac side it does so that seems like an oversight when the installer was created. I see uninstallers for both 2020 & 2021 on my vm.

Thanks for the advice, Brian - much appreciated. I've got a relatively new machine and build - been running a year and a half and haven't seen this missing uninstaller issue with any other software (did see it a couple of times on my old machine).
If manually removing things does the job then I'm not too worried, but it would be great if ON1 produced a utility to clean out evidence of old installs (making sure the presets, backgrounds, etc are copied over to the new version) and maybe a fix to the registry to put the uninstaller back in the list.0 -
They actually do have one based on the procedure I wrote. You have to ask them for it though. Or search through the Forums — a couple of users have posted links to it in the past.

Thanks so much, Brian. I'll look for it. Cheers!
