Can’t access Macintosh HD with Photo RAW 2021
AnsweredHello,
I have installed Photo RAW 2021 and everything seems fine except that I can’t access my internal HD in browse mode. Says that « There are no folder results for this drive. You may need to enable Full Disk Access in the Security & Privacy settings. » I did that and restarted Photo Raw and still no access. When I went again to the Full Disk Access panel in preferences the ON1 Photo RAW was still checked. Unchecked it, rechecked it, restarted program and still nothing. Seems like MAC OS just doesn’t like Photo RAW. Does anyone have any idea on what is going on?
Thanks

Press the shift key while the program is starting up. You'll see a dialog offering different options for deleting various program settings files. Click the button on the left labeled macOS 10.15 Upgrade. This will make sure the program has all the necessary OS permissions it needs to run.
If that does not fix the problem you'll have to contact tech support for more help. I can assure you the Mac OS runs Photo RAW 2021 just fine. I'm running it on a 2017 MacBook Pro.

Just for the sake of further confirmation, I have 2021 working fine on an iMac with Catalina.

Just installed 2021 and have the same problem (i.e. program reports it cannot access my HD even though I have given it full disk access. I am running MacOS Catalina 10.15.7.
Running the macOS 10.15 upgrade as suggested above makes no difference

Mine does the samething, very frustrating. I hope they figure it out soon!

Brian, I did what you suggested, it didn't work, thanks for trying

Thanks for that, Richard. I wonder if the difference in the permissions has anything to do with the upcoming Big Sur release. It may have more stringent security requirements that 2021 is preparing for.

Finally requested help from Stevie, here is the message I got from him.
Hello,
Thank you for contacting ON1 Support.
The only solution we've seen for this issue your running into, is to do a clean install.
You'll need to run the attached uninstall script which will nuke everything ON1.
Unfortunately it's currently not possible to back up albums or cataloged folders.
You'll need to recreate these after doing a clean install.
You can back up any user installed presets or extras by either moving, or copy/pasting the following folders:
Goto the User level Library
~/Library/Application Support/ON1: Extras 2021
~/Library/Application Support/ON1/ON1 PHOTO RAW 2021: Presets
* Note, the User Library is hidden by default. To reach it, open a new Finder window, then press and hold the Option key on your keyboard while you click the Go menu at the top of your screen. Select the Library option which appears. From there, you can continue into the Application Support/ON1
After uninstalling and reinstalling, you can move the Extras 2021 folder and the Presets folder back to their respective locations.
Let us know if you need further assistance. Thanks for choosing and using ON1 Software!

Remove_ON1_Files.dmg.zipI did what he said and it worked. The only thing I had to do after was remake my catalogs which was easy. I don’t have any albums so that wasn’t a problem. I don’t know if the link is valid but one thing to understand is that the OS balks at opening it since it isn’t signed (possible malware). The way around this to go to system preferences and click on security & confidentiality. In the General tab at the bottom you’ll see a choice to allow the program to run click it and it will run and fully uninstall Photo RAW 2021. This uninstaller is not the one that is in the Document folder that is with the program.
Hope this helps.

Not really sure there are still some folders of PR 2020 but I tried to open PR 2020 and it doesn’t react so I think that it probably nuked all the files.

I just tried what Stevie said to do and it didn't work for me, also the zip file I couldn't use because it needed to be updated? so I uninstalled under on1 files.

Ok, this is what I just did, instead of beating myself up over this, I went back in and clicked on My Catalog and created a new one, then I went to my picture folder and linked that to the catalog. BINGO, I can now access all my folders and my photos by doing this, I checked and I can edit a photo, just thought I would let everyone know what I found.
Oh, the hard drive says it can't find the folder, but this solves getting to your pic folders. Maybe one day support will fix this for us that have the problem.

Doug, here is the procedure the script from support utilizes to remove the whole program. This isn't a problem with ON1. If it was it would affect all Mac users. It's a problem with how it got installed on your system. I've been running 2021 for over a month without this problem.
Delete the following files and folders:
- /Applications/ON1 Photo RAW 2020
- /Library/Application Support/ON1
- /Library/Frameworks/ON_____.framework
- ~/Library/Application Support/ON1 — Make sure to export all your presets first so you can import them after reinstalling
- ~/Library/Caches/com.ononesoftware.ON1PhotoRAW____ There are several of these
- ~/Library/Caches/ON1 Photo RAW 2020
- ~/Library/Preferences/com.ononesoftware.ON1______ There are several of these one for each program module

I have that enabled for 2020 but not for 2021 so I'm going to say, "no". If it is needed the installer should prompt you to allow it. As you can see below, I have full access to all my drives.

Thanks for the update, Richard. Hopefully others will find this helpful too.

I also have the problem of having no access to local folders on the system drive after upgrade to PhotoRAW 2021. My system is OS 10.15.7 iMac 5K with 40 Gb RAM and 2 TB Fusion system drive.
I have tried all the suggested fixes listed here. Granting Full Disk Access doesn't help. I cannot add any other local folders either via the Security and Privacy preferences.
I have tried running First Aid on the Fusion Drive - no problems resolved - no difference to access. I have tried running PhotoRAW 2021 with SHIFT held down and selecting 'macOS 10.15 Upgrade' and 'Reset On1 PhotoRAW 2021' options - no difference.
I have submitted a support ticket.

Did you check the Preferences > Security & Privacy > Files and Folders to insure ON1 Photo RAW 2021 has the proper permissions there?

There's something going on here that it hard to understand.
As others have pointed out it is possible to access folders on a macOS Catalina HD via the "My Catalogs" tab, even when you try to access the same HD via the "Browse" tab you get a "cannot access the HD" warning message.
The latter problem is not solved either by giving Photo Raw 2021 Full Disk Access in the Mac's System Prefs>Security & Privacy, nor by running the "the macOS 10.15 upgrade" during PR 2021 startup.
Finally the advice to check that under the "Files and Folders" in the Mac's System Prefs>Security & Privacy tab allows for PR 2021 to have access to all Removable Drives, Downloads Folder etc. etc is inconsistent with the advice to give PR 2021 "Full Disk Access". If you do that, then under "Files and Folders" you don't get the option of checking individual folders for PR 2021-- macOS simply reports that PR 2021 already has "Full Disk Access" -- see screen grab.
Whether this is PR 2021 bug or a problem with PR 2021's interaction with Catalina it's stating the obvious that PR 2021 should not have been released with this issue unresolved

You need to unlock the Security and Privacy panel so you can make changes in Files and Folders. Select the entry for ON1 Photo RAW 2021 then add the additional access permissions as show in my previous post. Full Disk Access isn't what is needed. That worked in an earlier version of the OS but newer security features have been added making these changes necessary.
I see all the time various programs asking me if I will allow them to have access and make changes to these exact same security settings the first time one of those programs wants access to that particular location in the file system. This isn't an ON1 thing, this is an OS thing.

I have ensured that Security & Privacy is unlocked. I cannot add any other Files & Folders for On1 PhotoRAW 2021 after Full Disk Access is enabled for the program. Nor can I add any Files and Folders if Full Disk Access is NOT enabled.
Something is not right here. It appears to be an issue only with On1 PhotoRAW 2021. Other programs operate correctly.
I do have On1PhotoRAW 2020 still installed on this Catalina iMac alongside 2021 so maybe there is some interaction there which doesn't get updated correctly when installing. EDIT: On1 PhotoAW 2020 on this Catalina iMac now has the same problem accessing the local system drive folders. Both versions have Full Disk Access privileges.
My other iMac still running Mojave does not have the problem with access permissions with both 2020 and 2021 installed.

I just tried making changes to Files & Folders too and I cannot either. I thought it was like the Full Disk Access which allows you to add new programs and make changes to their settings. Apparently adding these permissions are controlled entirely by the OS as I described above. All we can do is turn that access on or off once it has been given.
Let's try this to see if we can force the OS to present the dialog asking if it is OK for a program to access these areas.
- Open any image in the Editor
- Add a new Layer with the + button in the Layers pane
- Navigate to your Macintosh HD
- Repeat for other devices and locations as shown in my settings below. You may not have some of them like the NAS. The Removable Volumes option would be for USB connected devices.

The reason things are working on Mojave and not Catalina are due to more stringent permissions requirements implemented by Catalina. Mojave does not have this level of permissions.

I have this same problem after upgrading to Big Sur..Under Local Drives, when I click on MacintoshHD I get an error message saying I need to go to security and privacy settings to give ON1 2021 permission to access folders, I went and added ON1 2021 and I still can't see the Folders on the Mac HD. I'm using Big Sur

Unfortunately those instructions are outdated for Big Sur. It has added new security and permissions features and I don't yet know how to get them set properly.
I'm going to wait a while before I upgrade.

Running Big Sur I' m experiencing the problem as described by Ron Skinner. Files on a USB-linked HD are accessible. Hope there comes a solution soon.

Same problem here (Big Sur) and nothing in this thread seems to correct it for me. Not sure that I should be making the effort anyway as it clearly is a bug that should not have been here at release. It is hardly a small issue!

Yes, this is an issue for On1 2021 on Big Sur.
Fortunately, I had catalogued all the images on my internal SSD and can also access folders on my Desktop.
I will report to Support, as should others.

Yeah it was working till I upgraded to Big Sur, I also reported this to support.

Have reported also but far from happy. If there is not a very quick fix I shall ask for a refund.

I am on Catalina 10.15.7 and have the same issues mentioned by all here. And I find it is unacceptable for us to have to dig into the system to find a solution to these problems. Also, I want to mention that even if I have 32 Gb of RAM, On1 is damn slow on everything: browsing, editing, etc. When I go from editing to browse the preview takes a lot of time to refresh and sometimes it just doesn’t refresh at all. Other times, when editing, let's say for example using a mask with Dynamic Contrast, the brush stall completely. Etc., etc., etc. very, very disappointed.
One of the solutions mentioned by tech support was to do a clean install, but this destroys your catalogue and albums, which have to be recreated from scratch. I'm using a lot of albums and have absolutely no intention to get rid of them. This is unbelievable! I beg your pardon for showing my frustration.

I am not seeing the slowness you are Marcel. Performance is generally ok - or would be if I could access all my images. In fact as I can only access the usb drive speed is surprisingly good. But this is too much.

Everyone should report this. The more people who do so, the more likely there will be a quick fix.
Meanwhile, I don't know if this will work for others, but if you can access folders on your desktop through On1 2021, then a temporary fix would be to drag your images there.
