Image descriptions (captions) possible to enter a carriage return for new paragraph?
Still quite new and adjusting to ON1 . . .
I write detailed photo captions that usually require paragraphing for readability.
I cannot seem to do this when entering text into the Description box in Metadata. Is it not possible?
In LR I do this by entering text into the Large Caption section. It does not work easily in the regular caption box.

The only way I've found is to set the text in a text editor then copy/paste it into the Description field. ON1 does not allow carriage returns in that field.

Thanks Brian.
That's doable and not too much trouble. It was the way I did it in LR until I found the Large Caption preset.

I have the same issue (2 years later) - I work in a news industry where we need to include cutlines in the description. Having some basic formatting options would be a welcome addition

David, the place to make suggestions is The photo Raw project...

In Windows - try Control + CR

I really wasn't meaning to make a suggestion - I was hoping someone had an answer to an old question. (CTL+CR doesn't do anything). It seems like such a simple thing... but I keep having to go back to use LR whenever I have a lot of images that need various captions

See my suggestion above. No need to go to Lr, just use a text editor then copy/paste.

Thank you - and I may end up doing that, but it's a headache when I have to write 30 different cutlines. Typing them in away from the image means that in order to be sure I have the right text with the right image, I have to type each one away from the program /copy, move back to On1 - confirm I'm still on the correct image and then paste, It really breaks up my flow... and I really need a flow (-:

You might want to try CTRL + CR again. I just tried it and it works for me.

I just tested on my Windows machine and Ctrl+Enter works for me as well.
One thing I found is if I went back to a previous line Ctrl+Enter work doesn't seem to work but it does in the sense it adds another line at the very bottom and I could arrow down to the new blank line.
A little hard to explain but if you play around with a bit it it's easy to figure out what's going.

Actually.... I have to retract my statement.
It turns out that CTRL+CR doesn't add a new line. It only looked like it did because there are already blank lines in place. I counted 6 lines below the initial description. No need to hit CR, just cursor down to the next line.

Rick, are you testing on the same image or at least making sure you have cleared all blank lines by pressing delete?
If I go to the Description field on a new image I can only enter text in the first row and cannot arrow down.
If I enter one word and then hit CTRL+Enter the cursor drops down to the next line and I still cannot arrow down. I can then enter text and press CTRL+Enter and the cursor drops down to the next line.
Now if I go back up to a line where I already have added a carriage return and press CTRL+Enter it looks like nothing happens but indeed it is adding lines the cursor won't drop down. I just tried this by adding a a word in the first line and I could not arrow down then pressed CTRL+Enter the cursor dropped to the second line where I entered a word then tried to arrow down and could not. I then arrowed up to the end of the first line and pressed CTRL+Enter 20 times and 20 blank lines were added below the second line of text.
In fact if you go into a blank description box you will not be able to arrow down but if you press CTRL+Enter multiple times it will just add a bunch of blank lines that you can arrow down through. The one thing you cannot do is type out several sentences that wrap then decide you want to add a carriage return between a sentence to start a new paragraph. In that case it just creates an empty line below the existing text.
Like I said if you experiment with it bit you can see what is happening.

Once y'all get this figured out, someone should write it up and report it to support.
The problem I have with the Description field is that more often than not it drops what I've written in it. I enter my text then click outside the box to "set" it and export the finished image. When I come back to it the description is gone.

This description field is really confusing. NOW it's working as I first described with CTRL + CR but when I retested I was NOT able to delete the 6 blank lines which is why I posted.
Since David's post, I tried it again and it DID delete the 6 lines. The condition changed in between tests. Possibly because the description had been saved with the photo at that time, I'm not sure.
So at present, I think I agree with David's description above.
My conclusion is that CTRL + CR does work, but only for adding blank lines at the end.
Brian: I haven't seen the description get lost yet, but I haven't done a lot of testing and I don't generally use it in my workflow.
