First crash reported in ON1 2021...Exactly the same scenario as in 2020...
Being first is not always a good thing :(

I just installed 2021. As soon as I launch it, it crashes. Not a great into to the new version...

First thing to do is try deleting settings files. Hold the Shift key while the program is launching and you'll be presented with a dialog offering different options for resetting your preferences and settings, and the program's settings files. Start with your setting files then try the program's if that doesn't work.
You might also want to check the CorruptFiles.log to see if it has found a problematic image file. The log file is at ~/Application Support/ON1/ON1 Photo RAW 2021.

Mine was on a clean, fresh Mac OS system which did not have ON1 installed Herbert Coolidge. Then, I tried on another clean system and got a similar crash while browsing the newly built catalog.
The good thing is only 2 crashes so far...The keyboard and clicks have been inhibited to a large extent while previews are building in 2021.
Still to check out more stuff...

Herbert - try looking at the On1 Crash log. I had a similar crash during testing and found references to some .on1 files having something strange in them just before the crash. Moving these out of the way solved the crashing for me. Full details and my work around were supplied to On1.
On a Mac the crash logs are at <user>/library/application support/On1/On1 Photo Raw 2021/crashes
I guess that on Windows there is a similar path in Roaming Data.

Simply moving a file from Browse pane to a folder causes a crash.
Dutch translation is crap.
The ON1 folder in <user>/library/application support/ON1 still contains 2020 folders.
Nowhere did I read that in Preferences you can/need to move your cache to the 2021 folder.
I mean, come on guys, really? Throwing this at your loyal customers?

Connection to other applications (Photoshop, Lightroom, DxO)....gone.

That was the first thing I turned off in Preferences David Tillett. I did not have or wanted any .on1 files generated. Was a known bug in 2020. Seems fixed in 2021...

Jaap, what exactly do you mean by "moving a file from Browse pane to a folder"? I move files and folders around all the time without any crashes.
You did not read anything about needing to move the cache because it isn't necessary.
I'm also unsure what you mean by, "Connection to other applications (Photoshop, Lightroom, DxO)....gone." If you're referring to the list of programs shown in the Send to…, yes, you will have to rebuild that. I reported the problem during testing but it is a simple matter to rebuild it as you need to send to those other program.

<Select an image in browse, and then drag it to a folder. Immediate crash. When restart, the file has been moved, though.>

<Then...why is it there? And if I do not move it, it will remain in a 2020 folder? I have uninstalled the 2020 version (clicking on the uninstall app on Mac) but the 2020 RAW folders are still there in the ON1 folder, next to the new various 2021 folders>

<Read your comment above about holding the SHIFT-key on start-up. Tried that and went for the option "Mac OS 15" (or something in that kind). That seems to have solved the crashing problem and rebuild of the 'send to..
So i'd advise you to put that somewhere out there for all Mac users>
<Still remain the translation to Dutch, the RAW 2020 folders that are still there next to the 2021 folders, and what the option to move the cache is for?>

Update: crash problem is nit solved. Clicking and dragging still makes it crash. Problem now is, that I cannot use holding the sift key to reset, because when the program restarts and opens, it simultaneously opens a feedback window. Because of that, I cannot click on either of the reset option buttons. When I dismiss the feedback window, the reset options window disappears as well, and the program opens...only to crash straight away again.
Crash log files are empty.

I don't know why the program is crashing when you move images to different folders. This does not happen to me. To reset the settings files you'll have to launch the program without pressing the Shift key. You'll still get the crash dialog if the program crashed the last time it was run. Submit it or not as you like but then immediately quit the program without doing anything else. This will clear the last run was a crash so you don't get that dialog the next time the program is launched. Now you can relaunch it with the Shift key held to get to the dialog allowing you to reset settings. I've had that problem too. :(
All caches should be migrated when 2021 is first run. The only cache you can move is the PerfectBrowseCache. If you have already moved it to a different location it will remain there. I have mine on an external SSD that also holds the program's Scratch space. Adding the SSD for that purpose will improve the program's performance. I moved the PBC because my boot drive is only 250GB so there isn't room on it for the PBC with all the other stuff that has to remain on the boot drive.
Unfortunately, the uninstaller does not completely remove all the program's components. If you are sure you won't be running 2020 again you can go ahead and remove any folders for older versions. There is stuff inside the System folders that also gets left behind. I have a procedure that identifies all the pieces left behind if you'd like to see it.
As for the Dutch translation, I doubt there is anyone in the company who speaks Dutch so they relied upon online translators which don't always get the correct translation particularly when individual words are translated without any context. If you want to help with that you can contact support and offer to help.
You'll have to contact them about why the program continues to crash when you move files around. It shouldn't be doing that obviously and it does not on my system. There is something else going on with your system that I can't identify. Have you checked your system's file structure with Disk First Aid or any of the better 3rd party drive maintenance programs?

Narrowed it down: it still happens, but only with videofiles (i.e. .MOV).
I doubt there's anything wrong with my system. I have never experienced any app to crash on my Mac. ON1 2020 worked just fine. It's only in ON1 2021 (though narrowed down now to video files).

I'm able to reproduce that move crash now too. Thanks for narrowing it down. I'd never tried to move a movie before. I wonder if this has anything to do with the upcoming ability to work with movie files.

I reported this to support and their response was, "don't do that". I wrote back that programs shouldn't crash regardless of whether the file type is one the program supports or not and that any kind of crash needs to be fixed ASAP. We'll see where that goes.
I also sent the crash report. I was told that the crash log from the Apple crash dialog needs to be copied & pasted into the crash dialog that ON1 shows before sending it. I recommend you do the same. The more frequently the engineers see a crash report the more pressure it puts on them to get it fixed.

...and suggest they remove the Dutch translation. Just as an example: tethered shooting has been translated into something similar to 'shooting while being tied down' ;-)
I'll remove the old 2020 folders by hand. De-installation is something to work on for them too. The ON1 folder now is about twice as many gigs as before because of the faulty de-installation sequence.

Please tell them to update the user manual with the dos and don'ts Brian Lawson :P

Here's where to look to complete remove the previous version(s).
- /Applications/ON1 Photo RAW 2020
- /Library/Application Support/ON1
- /Library/Frameworks/ON_____.framework
- ~/Library/Application Support/ON1 — Make sure to export all your presets first so you can import them after reinstalling
- ~/Library/Caches/com.ononesoftware.ON1PhotoRAW____ There are several of these
- ~/Library/Caches/ON1 Photo RAW 2020
- ~/Library/Preferences/com.ononesoftware.ON1______ There are several of these one for each program module

Just got another email from support about the crash from moving movies. Stevie said, "We've logged the issue. And yes, it shouldn't crash."
Persistence pays. 😎

I like the first response better Brian Lawson ...We should be responsible users :P

Brain if I have understood correctly, ON1 2020 may continue to exist alongside ON1 2021
I also have crash problems but this when exporting. I also noticed today that copying an edited mask does not work properly.
I waited for suport but now think about doing a reinstall in the hope that everything will be better.0 -
Yes, 2020 and 2021 can both together. I have both of them installed on my Mac.
For the crashing and mask copying issue I'll need more details. A reinstall won't hurt and tech support may well advise you to do it anyhow so you can preempt that request by doing it now.
