Cloud brushes
I watched Dylans On1 2021 demo video on adding clouds and when he goes to the "Brushes" drop down he has loads more brushes available than I have.
I downloaded the "Watercolour Brushes" set but there are still many brushes he has that I don't have.
How do I get these additional brushes?
(I'm using Windows 10)
-
I haven't seen any other brushes offered than the Watercolor ones.
A future update will support another brush format (ABR I think)

How do I get more cloud brushes?

Linda, can you be more specific? Are we talking the watercolor brushes? Making your own brushes or other extras?

I mean to download cloud brushes from other sites that would work in ON1. It would be nice to have a brush library. On the tutorials I watch when they show the brushes being used, there are many more than what is currently in the ON1 2021 program.

In that case, the very first post above says,
I haven't seen any other brushes offered than the Watercolor ones.
On Nov 5, Nathan posted this in the Plus group...
We will be adding support for .arb import with the next dot release. Obsidian Dawn is a partner that provided us with some factory brushes to distribute. As of now, you can import tiff through the extras manager, not ideal, but it should be much easier when we add support for .arb.
So, if you want to start collecting .arb brushes, you can, but they won't work yet.

I find it incredibly insulting to users that there is an On1 video demonstrating a process which cannot be carried out by everyone who own the software. https://www.on1.com/videos/quickly-add-clouds-to-your-dull-skies/
In the demonstration video Dylan has a category in his drop down of brushes labelled "Clouds" which do not appear to be part of On1 RAW 2021.If we were using Photoshop .abr brushes, there are dozens available as free downloads, but it appears, in their infinite wisdom, On1 have chosen to use a different brush type with Photo RAW.
Perhaps someone can come up with a way of converting Photoshop .abr brushes to On1 (tiff ?) brushes?.0 -
As Rick mentioned above, twice!, support fit abr brushes is coming.

But where did Dylan get his collection of "Cloud" brushes from?
Those are obviously available NOW, not in some mooted "upgrade."0 -
It's going to be very hard for anyone here to tell you where someone else got their collection of brushes. A couple of sources do come to mind however. He might have created them himself. The company that ON1 worked with to develop the brush feature might have provided more brushes to the company for their internal use to help with development. There were additional brush sets offered to users who prepaid for the upgrade; he could be using some of those.
There is nothing stopping you from creating your own brushes. They are just black & white tiffs of clouds.

Here's a short tutorial from Matt Kloskowski showing how he uses shaped brushes to create background textures. It's made for Photoshop but now that ON1 has shaped brushes the technique is the same.

I'm aware that support for .abr brushes is coming, you keep telling me.
I'm not bothered about what may or may not be coming, I'm concerned with what's available right now.
The add clouds video I linked to above clearly shows there are other brushes available than the ones in the program. Since these would appear very useful when creating clouds I would simply like to know where they can be obtained.I must have a go at creating tiff brushes from my cloud images.

No, it does not show that others are available. It shows that Dylan has others that HE uses. If I create a bunch of my own brushes and show them off in a video does that mean "they are available"? No, it means I have something you do not and that is all it means.
The company has made available all they have to offer at this time. I don't know what else to tell you.

When I read that in On1 2021 you could create your own clouds to add to an image I thought it sounded like a useful feature and one that I could make use of.
I thought the purpose of a tutorial was to demonstrate the capabilities of the program.
In this case it demonstrates what you might be able to do IF you had the additional features (i.e. brushes) installed.Maybe there should be a tutorial on how to create and install your own brushes, since the ones provided with the program aren't capable of doing the job.
In the meantime I'll just have to go back to doing sky replacement using the AI Mask method..

They are just grayscale images of clouds that are imported into the Brushes section of the Extras Manager. It is easy to make your own.

If you want, I can put together a quick example of how I made my cloud stamp.

Thank You Rick, that would be helpful.

Sorry, I missed the reply somehow. I'll work on that this afternoon.

Ok, so this is how I made my cloud stamp. The method still needs tweaking, but it's not difficult...
First, find a fluffy little cloud that's going to be easy to isolate...
Then crop around it and create a Layer mask to make the background transparent. I used a Color Range Mask to start, then cleaned it up with a Brush. If you have to remove objects nearby, use a well-feathered brush to keep the edges soft. Make sure you don't miss any spots or they will show up later in the stamp.
You'll need to adjust Exposure and Contrast to make sure you have detail. It doesn't need to have perfect exposure because you can adjust that when it's stamped.
Then invert the layer with a Curves Filter. If you can't see much detail, go back a step and readjust it.
Then add a White color fill Layer under it.
Export it as a TIFF, then use Extras Manager to import it to your personal brush collection. It might be useful to export a reversed version as well to work with light from the other direction.
Once you try the stamp, you'll be able to see if you have a detailed cloud or just a white blob and you'll be able to readjust accordingly.
The result looks like this...
Edit: I suppose I should add a couple of tips on how to use it.
I set up two presets and named them both 'My Clouds' to make it easy.
Local Adjustments preset:
- Set the Title to 'Clouds'
- Select Paint with Color
- Set mode to Replace color
- Use the dropper to select some light grey or use the color picker
- In Blending options use the Apply To eyedropper to select sky blue
Adjustment Brush preset:
- Mode: Paint in
- Feather: 0
- Opacity: 100
- Flow: 100
- Pre-select any Cloud brush
Just select both presets, pick a cloud and go for it. When you stamp your cloud it should apply only to the blue sky and that can be adjusted in Blending Options. All of the sliders in Local Adjustments will be available to fine tune the look. If the cloud should spill over onto something, switch back to a regular brush and paint out that area.
Happy Stamping!

I had the same question about importing or finding other custom brushes that will work with ON1. It's mentioned above that people that pre-purchased 2021 got extras. I did and I did not receive anything extra. I also would like to know how Dylan got a folder for Clouds under his brushes. Would be nice to know how it's done. It was the main reason I upgraded!

Rebeca, have you checked your Products page under your Account? If it isn't there you should contact customer support.

The only extras that I know of are the watercolor brushes. I don't know if everyone gets access or not, but if you do, they can be found here.
Just try it, either it will work or it won't.

Thank you, found them :)
Still looking for more brushes around the web... can't find any that will work. I hope they do the update soon. ♥0 -
Rick Sammartino; That was the most helpful post in this entire thread. Like Rebeca I did not have the watercolour brushes installed (I'm on 2021.5 now) and that link was THE help I needed, thank you. Paul

Glad I could help, but pretty sure you don't have 2021.5. It's not out yet and I don't want everyone else confused and asking how to get it.

OOoops, you are quite right Rick - I mis-read the number in the microsecond it is on screen while loading, I have 2021.1(15.1.0.10148) so 21.1 in reality. Sorry.
