I am in the trial period with ON1 Photo Raw, and I like the software quite a bit, but I have not been able to figure out how to integrate it into my desired workflow.
I am not a professional - I am the amateur who always has the camera. Some of my photos I do extensive editing on, but I often do no more than cropping if I am just passing along snapshots to friends. The way I like to share my pictures is through GooglePhotos. I have a folder on my mac (AllPhotos) with subfolders for each year, and sub-sub folders for each month (e.g. I have eclipse photos stored in AllPhotos / 2017 / 2017-08.) I use google backup and sync to automatically load all of those photos into GooglePhotos.
Unfortunately, backup and sync does not re-upload changed photos unless the name or location changes. Because of that, I cannot put the photos in the directory until I have edited them. Also, googlephotos cannot recognize or process any info in sidecar files (is that what .on1 files are called?)
So What I would like to do is keep my originals in one directory hierarchy, and make all of my non-destructive edits there. Then, on quit or something, I would like to have all of my "finished" edits exported to the directory (with matching structure) that I have Google automatically uploading.
Or is there a better way to integrate with google photos?
