Don't know if you can go back, since it "updated the database" while updating to current version...

Updating the database for the new version so you cannot go back. This is definitely a really good reason for being able to backup the database along with the images! ON1 repeatedly says this is not possible.  BTW, I very happy with the new version form this morning (15.1.0.10100).

I have already updated and I myself do not want to go back. However, I always preserve the installation exe files for the previous versions in a separate directory. Just to be on the safe side.

If you have a backup you should be able to restore your user's ON1 2021 folders at

    • Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/ON1/
    • Win: C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\ON1\

You'll want to restore all folders with 2020 & 2021 in their name. 2021 has a folder labeled 2020 which contains 2021 info. Restore the ON1 Photo RAW 2021 application folder also and you should be back in business.

Thanks for the advice and follow up. Things have improved a bit after I made the following tweaks to the new install:

    • It changed my previous System Preferences so I reset both System and VRAM to their max settings
    • Emptied the Browse Cache and reset it to it's maximum size (It's on my fastest drive SSD drive)
    • Reset the Video Card Strength to maximum High setting and checked Fast Preview, Panning and GPU Render. (These were changed to mid-levels during the install.)

After making these changes i re-catalogued my current folders and... Things were still sluggish but improved.

Five hours later after editing a few images and keeping the application open to re-index everything, and doing a complete reboot. Things are almost as fast as the previous version.

There is still a lag - but hopefully things will continue to improve, but I've learned a lesson about jumping on a update for features that for me are nice-to-have and "who's cares" when my whole workflow gets slowed to a grind.

Glad to hear things are working better for you. Be sure to check that the OS is set to allow the new version of the program to use the accelerated graphics and the same for any graphics card driver settings. I'm not a Windows guy so I can't be more specific.

Emptied the Browse Cache and reset it to it's maximum size (It's on my fastest drive SSD drive): The Cache Size slider in the Preferences > System settings panel does not affect the size of the PerfectBrowseCache; the panel's a bit confusing. The PBC will grow as large as is needed to hold all the browser previews. The Cache Size slider controls a RAM cache the holds what gets read from the PBC to improve browser performance. The Empty button is there to clear the RAM cache if memory gets tight. The Reset button however does control the location of the PBC. That button will move the PBC back to your internal drive.

Brian - Thank you for clarify how the Cache Size works. By resetting the Scratch Folder Location and then pointing it to a dedicated folder in the root of my internal main drive which is an SSD card - the new version RETURNED to the SNAPPY performance of the previous version!

The Reset button however does control the location of the PBC. That button will move the PBC back to your internal drive.

The latest version number is 2021.1 (15.1.0.10100). You can see which version you are running in the About ON1 Photo RAW 2021 command.

At C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\ON1you should find a couple of text files named something like corrupt files.log. See if either of those identifies the file the program is having a problem with then move it to a new location so it won’t keep crashing the program.

Hi, I also have problems with a new version; there is no Intent ( not active ) profile in View pane of Edit part Version (15.1.0.10100). Any suggestions?? The best regards - Dariusz

Hi. My problem is that opening Vs15.1.0 from the installed version in Nov 2020 (15.0.???) on a windows 10 OS is that I receive random "Damaged Image" and the programme has crashed.. How do I overcome this? Bruce
