I'm running PR2021 on Windows 10 and notice that I seem to be getting more "Not Responding" after I hit done with my edits with the latest update. No layers applied...just minor Tone adjustments and one or two Effects. I feel like I'm waiting too long to be able to edit the next image because of this behavior. Also, it appears to take a lot longer to display in Browse when I first launch the program. It seem a bit faster before
I'm running on Windows 10.
Anyone else experiencing this behavior?
Have you checked the OS graphics and video card driver settings to be sure they know about the updated version of the program?

'Not Responding' has been a problem for quite some time now. Still haven't figured out what's causing it, but I know it's not CPU, RAM or Disk I/O being maxed out.
It's been reported to Support, but feel free to report it again.0
Yes, I have those settings for Windows and on my Nvida CUDA setting to use the graphics card.
I was also noticing that when I select a favorite photo, it would not show the Heart symbol and Not Responding started occurring. What's odd is after I rebooted Windows, it appears that the Not Responding seems to have lesson, but it still took a long time for Browse to display my folders. I'm not using cataloging.
I'm finally feeling comfortable using 2021, but the inconsistency with performance gets really frustrating.0
I've noticed a pattern. When I first boot up my PC and launch PR2021, I get the lag in opening Browse and the Not Responding when I edit or cancel a photo to go back to Browse. If I reboot my PC, and launch PR2021, Browse opens much faster and I don't get the "Not Responding" behavior.
I've opened a Support ticket.
Support responded right away. They had me hold down the Shift key and open PR2021 to delete the settings file, close PR2021 and reboot my PC.
It appears to have worked.0
George, If you are seeing a difference in performance between starting up after a shutdown and a restart of your machine I would suspect what you are seeing is more of an issue on your machine and not an On1 issue. With windows 10 a Shutdown of your machine is very similar to the old hibernate mode and is designed to help your machine boot faster when you restart. This means some processes from your last session restart unknown to you and could be causing some issues a restart will clear everything.
This article might explain it better.

You may want to disable the Fast Startup option in Windows 10 and see if that helps.
See this article for instructions on that.

I have the experience that " not responding" problem start when using "local adjument" for a while ?

The solution of deleting the settings file didn’t work. I’m still experiencing the same behavior. I’ve sent my PR2021 log file and a Windows DMP log they requested.
Waiting to hear back of their findings.0
George I tried responding 2 days ago but I see that comment is still pending approval for some reason. Maybe the links I included caused this so I'll comment without links and let you google some info.
You said above "When I first boot up my PC and launch PR2021, I get the lag in opening Browse and the Not Responding when I edit or cancel a photo to go back to Browse. If I reboot my PC, and launch PR2021, Browse opens much faster and I don't get the "Not Responding" behavior."

Do a search for the difference between PC shutdown and restart and you will find several articles on it.
You could try disabling "fast start" search for an article on that. If you disable fast start shutting down your PC acts more like a restart does.1
I think you've identified the problem! I disabled Fast Start and saved the changes. I Turned Off my PC, and I'm not getting the lag or Not Responding!
I can't thank you enough for taking the time to post this information. I'm going to let On1 Support know, since I have an open ticket.
If anything changes, I'll post another update
Thanks again for your help!
Hi George, happy to help and glad that worked for you!0
For any Mac users following along we have the same thing with the Reopen windows when logging back in checkbox.0
I also use PR2021 on my HP Laptop (I7 - 16GB Ram nVidia card, SSD external for Scratch and Cache) and while I wasn't getting the "Not Responding" behavior displayed, I did notice that it took a long time to open Browse and go back to Browse after an Edit or Cancel was done to an images.
So, I disabled "Fast Start" on my laptop as well and sure enough, I see a big improvement in performance. I did make Support aware of my findings.
I'm not sure if anyone else would experience the same improvement, but I sure have.
Hats off again to David for pointing this out...it has taken the frustration (at least from a performance perspective) out of editing in PR2021. I really thought that I had to consider upgrading to a new PC.
I have experienced similar problems with both 2019 and 2020. The problem is most severe for me with 2020 after waking from Hibernate. Even if the machine woke several hours previous to my first attempt to use PR, the first action I take in PR will cause my Windows system to lock completely for about 15 seconds - no mouse or keyboard actions are acknowledged by the OS. After that ~15 seconds, everything behaves normally. But my 'normal' still includes a lot of long delays after performing action in PR, although I don't see many "Not Responding" states.
If exit PR before Hibernating, then start PR after the next boot, PR behaves properly.
Because this happens only in PR and regardless of how long ago the system booted, I believe that this is strictly a PR problem, and not caused by some other process.
I reported this to support and was basically told "don't do that", which is not acceptable answer to any lockup problem.
George, I'd be curious to see if you see similar behavior. Try exiting PR, then perform a Hibernate rather than a Shutdown. Upon next reboot, start PR and see if if behaves better.0
My PC goes into hibernate after a while and when I wake the PC and open PR2021, I have no issues. Again, since disabling Fast Start, I see a performance increase. Have you tried disabling Fast Start and see if it resolves your issue as well?
I guess I can argue the point of it being a PR issue as I haven’t experienced performance issues with any other program running on my machine, but I haven’t noticed any difference in my PC start up with Fast Start disabled. I’m ok with this solution as it allows me to continue with my editing without the performance frustration.
I have made Support aware of my findings. Maybe that that will help them uncover where the conflict exits.1
If you're still using hibernate, like I am, then disabling Fast Start is not coming into play - we aren't performing either a reboot or a restart of our systems. It's likely that performing that one reboot after changing the setting cleared something that was amiss in your system. It's possible that a reboot might clear something in my system when the problem is occurring as well. I'd be curious to see how long PR continues to work well for you.
I'm a software developer, and keep a variety of programs running on both my home and work computers. I've been using Hibernate since the early days of Windows 7 , and I've never had a problem like what I see in PR where it's briefly unresponsive so consistently after waking from hibernate.0
