2021.5 is released.
The ability to control sliders with the up and down arrow keys is pretty nice.

What's new is the ability to be able to move the sliders even though you are not in the panel showing that control. For instance, you can adjust the overall contrast while still in let's say a Color Enhancer panel.
My favorite new feature is the ability to add or change the hotkeys through the program.

Brian, do you know where the video is showing the slider controls you mentioned? This doesn't seem to be in the User Guide at all, but I remember Dan showing it in a video.

There were additions to how the slider controls work. Previously, you had to click in the number field for the slider then the arrow keys would work but only at whatever the lowest increment for that control allows. Now you can activate the arrow keys by clicking on the thumb or slider control and the faster you press the keys the greater the increment so you don't have to walk from 0 to 100 with 100 keypresses.

A bit disappointed. If you are not using Adobe anymore, there is not much meat. It appear that this upgrade is for those users who want to use On1 as a plugin, in the hopes of drawing those users closer. On1 is my main editor now and I am afraid that other than keyboard shortcuts which will be useful to some, there is little improvement in the tools I use everyday.
I would love them to turn a release to improving what they have. The pixel peepers have long criticized the RAW conversion, and noise reduction. It is slow to start up and there is a substantial wait switching from browse to edit..
I represent the "base" of users and On1 needs to keep us engaged. I continue to maintain DxO and Affinity which are grooming themselves to join the "big leagues".
I hope On1 will address basic issues instead of going with the latest crazes.

I am just a basic Photo Raw User & Plus Member.
Not so long ago and people were calling for stability improvements. Which judging from what I am seeing on my PC today, is what ON1 has delivered. i.e., if there are any bugs in the new release, they aren't in the bits of Photo Raw which I use the most. Three Cheers...!
I don't have any problems with Photo Raw's Raw Conversion. Of course, I would like to improvements to noise reduction, who wouldn't? But, to fund new developments, ON1 needs a steady income stream, so they quite understandably will be doing their best to attract new customers. The expanded range of Plugins is one way to sell ON1's products to a wider range of potential customers. They also reflect what I am seeing at the Camera Club. Once upon a time the majority used Adobe and only Adobe. Now, whilst the majority may still be using Adobe, many of them don't use Adobe as much as they used to and they are also running other programmes, such as DXO, Capture 1, and dare I say it, Photo Raw. So, allowing a wider range of editing packages to plug in to ON1's software, appears to be only common sense.
There is another elephant in the room, which I suspect will occupy much of ON1's time in the next few months. i.e., Apple's move away from Intel based hardware and onto its own hardware/ARM based chips. Recoding Photo Raw to run natively on a different architecture, it sounds simple, but I am sure that in reality it is not simple at all.
ON1 does have a track record of reacting positively to suggestions and requests that are made on the Photo Raw Project. If you want to see new features, then suggest them, and see if other people agree with you.1 -
Agree with you in general. Affinity has been quietly grooming itself to compete with Lightrom AND photoshop. Noone knows when V2 will drop, but I suspect it will bring major advances on the RAW conversion and photodata management sides, PL4 also has made major strides in useability, RAW conversion and noise reduction. It is also poised to challenge Adobe and Capture 1. On1 is strongest in finishing and masking, weakest in developing. Its hard to know what draws a photographer to try and use a new editor. It certainly was a long and difficult process for me as a long time LR and PS user.
I think workflow in ON1 is quite good but I feel that they never go for the gold ring in any area, but are satisfied with "good enough" and then move to the next "big thing"
Look. I criticize to be helpful. I know ON1 reads these posts. I have sent message to support in the past. I want them to be successful. They are my main editor in spite of shortcomings
As an aside, LR has tried to slowly refine basic quality in their releases (so much so that their supporters complain about lack of new features...).

Yes, without doubt ON1 pays attention to what is written on the various forums and other posts.
I think that Affinity has its sights on Photo Shop, in the same way that Photo Raw had/has its sights set on Lightroom. Personally I was a Lightroom User, and comparing the two I much prefer Photo Raw. It is very capable, very stable, and it can do things that Lightroom simply could not.
In comparison with Lightroom I think that the Workflow in Photo Raw is more than just good.
ON1 does get things wrong, they launched a set of cloning tools that didn't work. I found that very upsetting. However, they soon restored the old tools. Then very quietly they launched new versions of the cloning tools, which work extreemly well.
In January hints were dropped on a Blog Post to say that Dan and His Team were working on better noise control. So, I am waiting hopefully. But, I'd rather wait until the new product is tested and working, than to demand that they launch it before it is ready.
And I 100% agree with you in that there probably 'is no pleasing us'. I think that ON1 handles the pressure very well.
