Deactivating programme

It may not be necessary to deactivate your existing copy before installing on the new M1 system. If it is necessary you'll be told when you try to activate the new install and there will be a link to deactivate previous copies.

When I did this it was because my MacBookPro died and I had to buy a new system. I just migrated everything from my Carbon Copy Cloner backup of the MBP (Time Machine or SuperDuper! backups will also work) and everything came across just fine including paintbrushes and presets.

If you choose to install a fresh copy on your new M1 you will have to reinstall all your presets, paintbrushes, etc. Once the new 2021.5 update is released later this month is is supposed to include a cloud sync feature for all that stuff.

I am thinking of moving my On1 to another Mac as well...(mine is dying and ON1 keep crashing...)...Can you explain how to do that with a time machine backup?...sorry I am not that of an expert on that one..I have lots of preset etc. that I would prefer not to loose...

    Thank you in advance.

The first time you turn on your new system and set up your initial User Account you will be asked if you want to migrate from another computer or Time Machine backup or you have the option to just continue on with the setup manually. If you choose to copy from another system or TimeMachine backup you just connect the computer/drive and click the button. Time Machine can take quite a while because of how it works to store its backups. In my case I simply connected my bootable CCC backup drive and chose the option to copy from another computer.

Thanks Brian for fast response. Just to be clear...I am trying to get the ON1 on my partner's iMac..(so I can actually use it...). so all I really want to copy is the ON1software and all the presets etc. that were on my MacBook Pro...nothing else from my time machine....is that what you meant? or did you refer to migrating to a brand new system (Mac)?

I was talking about migrating to a brand new machine.

What I would do in this case is just install the software on the new system. Copy the ~/Library/Applications Support/ON1 folder from the old machine to the new and you should be in business. I'm not making any guarantees though as I haven't tried that method myself. In theory it shouldn't be any different than migrating it.
