If you have "Show subfolder contents" enabled, you will see your files even though you've gone up one level in folders.

This option is at the very bottom of the Browser screen.

To go with what Rick mentioned, if you are in folder QED with the Show Sub-Folder Contents option turned on the version file XYZv1 will be created in the QED folder because it is the Selected folder. Any Exports you do will also be in folder QED for the same reason.

I also think there is a bug in the program. I can duplicate the problem without using Show Sub-Folder Contents.

I was not able to duplicate it (Win) without 'show folder contents'. Maybe a Mac thing?

    Let me try it again.

Yep, Show Sub-Folders off causes the problem for me.

    1. I have a folder alpha with various image types just for testing. I duplicated one of those images.
    2. Next I created a subfolder untitled.
    3. I went into untitled and created a 2nd untitled folder. The structure now looks like alpha/untitled/untitled.
    4. Back in alpha I moved the copy image into untitled/untitled by dragging it to the left column entry.
    5. In untitled/untitled I created a version of the copy image.
    6. Back to alpha I renamed the folder untitled to 'untitled top' giving me the structure alpha/untitled top/untitled/copy image v1.
    7. As soon as the folder was renamed a 2nd copy of the version was added to alpha. I can see it in both folders alpha & untitled but turning on the Show option while in alpha shows only 1 copy of the version.

I am unable to delete the alpha/version independently of the alpha/untitled top/untitled/version copy.

I've seen this happen once or twice in the past and didn't think too much about it. Now I think it should be reported.

Actually, deleting it from the alpha folder also removed it from the lower level untitled folder.

Removing it from either folder causes it to be deleted from both locations.

I had a condition once where the folder list was out of sync with the folder that was open. In other words, the folder tree was showing a different folder than the one I was actually in. Support was not able to reproduce it, but I wonder if this is something similar.

They seem to have problems keeping things in sync when files/folders are renamed. I reported a bug where renaming a file which had been added to a published album would break the connection and that image would no longer sync properly until it had been removed from the album and added back.

I just got a notice from Stevie that the devs have "logged a bug for fixing in a future release".
