Nikon Z 7II camera profiles not showing
AnsweredI just got a Nikon Z 7II and the Camera profiles aren’t showing up in Develop when shooting RAW Lossless compression, I’m using the latest version of ON1 2021.5. The Raw files are set the same way on my Z6 and Z50 and the profiles show up for those cameras. Anyone seeing this?

That model camera is not listed as being supported as a Tier 1 camera. Camera Profiles are only available for Tier 1 cameras.

Yeah just got this reply from Stevie…..
Hello,
Thank you for contacting ON1 Support.
Camera profiles are not yet available for some of the newest camreras.
We are still waiting for these to be included in a future update.
Let us know if you need further assistance. Thanks for choosing and using ON1 Software!0 -
Hi Ron,
I've just bought a Nikon Z7 II and am finding the same problems with camera profiles as you are. What is puzzling is that the camera is listed as being supported and as a Tier 1 camera.
I, too, am using the very latest version of On1 PR and am eagerly awaiting the release of 2022. Hopefully, things will have been fixed with the new release.
Regards,
Allan

Tier 1 means that Photo RAW is interpreting the RAW data with its own algorithms. For Tier 2 cameras the program relies on a 3rd party interpreter. Being a Tier 1 camera does not mean that the Lensfun database has entries for that camera/lens combination. That is what is needed for the lens correction. Once you camera and lenses are in the database then Photo RAW will be able to handle them correctly.

Hi Brian,
Thanks for the clarification. Ron's and my point is that the On1's native profiles are available (On1 landscape etc.) in the develop mode but the Z7 ii camera's own profiles are not. In my Nikon Z6 they were.
Is this is a separate matter from the lens correction that I have complained about previously?
I am still committed to On1 and have already pre-ordered the 2022 edition. It is wonderful at the high end but continually irritates me that the basics at the low end cause problems.
Regards,
Allan

Sorry 'bout that. I've been working with lens profiles kind of deeply lately and I guess I got stuck in that rut when I read about missing profiles.
FWIW, I have the same problem with my Canon R5. It is a Tier 1 camera also but the Canon profiles are missing. I noted that to Patrick Smith the other day when we were discussing Tier 1 vs Tier 2 stuff. He said he'd be sure to let Dan know.

Thanks Brian.
It's not relevant to this post but have you any news about progress on getting lens corrections working correctly on On1? I've been looking for a way to email you directly within Plus but have not found one. Is it possible?
Cheers,
Allan

Did you follow the recent thread on the Plus Forums that dropped me into the Lensfun data API hole? Pretty much everything I know about their lens correction is in there. Basically the problem is that the combination of the camera manufacturer, its crop factor, and the lens ID info are cross referenced in the database to find the right lens profile to be used. These are all string searches so the matches have to be exact. The problems start to come when the manufacturer calls the same camera one thing for one locale and another elsewhere. Same for the lens exif data. If one spelling isn't there a match won't be found.
I don't know how much effort the company puts into fixing these kinds of issues or if they simply implement the code and download the latest version of the data files used to build the database. It gets built every time the program is launched which is why updating the profiles manually works. From what I can tell by comparing the files from Topaz against those from ON1 it looks like they are simply loading the latest set of profiles which makes sense. If they made any custom changes for this release, they would have to remember to make those same changes for the next Lensfun database update. Same for us, if we fix something we have to remember to keep a copy of that fix or it gets overwritten with the next update to the software.
In the Plus Forums, if you click on another User's name you'll be taken to their profile page where there is a Message button to send them an email.

Hi Ron Skinner , Allan Timms wondering if this has been resolved for you and for Z7II? Can you see Z7II camera profiles? I'm using Z6II and I don't have camera profiles there. I have camera for 18 months now, using latest version of ON1. I'm not professional and this is very important for me. All the new features are fantastic, so it's a bit frustrating this wasn't added yet.

Matus, your camera is supported and you should have access to camera profiles as long as it's a standard RAW file. There is no support for HIF/HEIF high-efficiency formats

Hi Matus,
After one of the minor updates of On1 PR the camera profiles appeared and are now working well for my Z7ii.

Allan

I'm seeing them in 2022.5 (16.5.1.12536)

Hi Matus yes I can see the Nikon profiles on both my Z7II and Z9, you should be seeing them on your Z 6II

Thank you all, appreciate your prompt replies.
I've actually received feedback from tech support and it looks like this is it for me with ON1, not going to pay for another version with a hope there will be Z6II profiles added (maybe). It's a pity, because I really love everything else about the SW. Probably bit niche requirement, but I love how pics look in camera or in Photo Mechanic 6 and have no time to try replicate every single picture in ON1Hello,
Thank you for contacting ON1 Support.
We don’t have any ETA for Nikon Z6II Camera profile support.
Hopefully with a future version, we just don’t have any timeline.

I am seeing Camera Profiles for Nikon Z 6 II cameras. This is in the most recent 2022.5 update.
