Keyword hierarchy issues
under 2019.5, Keywords are a mess. Coming from Lightroom, this has been the largest nightmare of the conversion to PR and the continued limitation of the app. Recently this has been revealed even more as I work towards using NAS apps for displaying images (Synology "Moments").
Moments see's the keywords and parent as separate keywords. IE keywords of Animal\Bird\Goose\Canadian Geese, will show up as 4 separate keywords, which explodes the listing. I understand in part why each is distinct, but really miss Lightroom's control for saying whether or not to export a certain keyword or not in the image and the XMP metadata preserving the hierarchy.
How is everyone else handling this? Any tips and tricks? I love the editing capability of On1 PR. It to me is much more natural and powerful than Lightroom, yet it is the simple DAM capabilities and UI bugs that have me itching and considering switching back.

Yes, keywords in 2019 were a mess. They are much better in the 2021.5 release. They've finally fixed all the problems with them that I've reported since they were introduced.
A big part of the problem is embedded keywords which are optional in Photo RAW. Please see my article Fixing Keyword Issues for a discussion on how all that works and the solutions I found but that was written after 2020.5 so the bugs that were fixed when I wrote it will still be present in your version.
I highly recommend upgrading to the latest version to get all those bug fixes, other bug fixes, and the new features and improved performance.

The problem I have is with "Advanced Search." in 2021.5, you have the search options of "Search Current Folder" etc. but I find, if I select "Search Cataloged folders" the program starts searching as soon as I type the first letter of the search term, whhich makes entering the full search words very difficult.
If I do an "Advanced Search" I change to "Search Cloud Sync" folder (which is empty), enter my search terms and then switch to "Search Cataloged Folders" in order to carry out a search.
I find this rather inconvenient but I wonder if I'm doing it wrong?0 -
No, you're not doing anything wrong. What you are seeing is by design. It was even worse in previous versions because the searching on each character entered was done regardless of the search setting.
I typically press Command/Control-F and type what I want to search for in field in the options bar. Then I go to Advanced Search and change the search settings. When I search for keywords I use the Keyword List and double-click its entry. That always defaults to a Catalog search without any typing.

Thanks for that Brian.
It was so bad I thought I must be doing it wrong.
It would be better if you could just enter your search terms and then press "Enter" to initiate the search, whichever folder you are in.0 -
That was suggested many times in previous versions. What we have now is the compromise the company came up with.
If all you are searching for is a keyword using the Keyword List is much faster. You have the ability to search there for the keyword you want if your list is long but its results are immediate. Command/Control-8 toggles the Metadata panel's visibility and Command/Control-9 toggles the Keywords List. Quick and easy to get to the keyword that way.

Thanks for the suggestion.
I must admit I never thought of searching using the Keyword List.
I'll use that method in future.
