Dragging from Photo raw to NoNoise

Dragging a photo from On1 Photo Raw 2021 browse to NoNoise does not work for me either. I'm running a dev version of Win 11 so wasn't sure if it was just a Win 11 issue or not.

Ok, here is an update for ya...

Thank you for contacting ON1 Support.

This is due to the fact that both ON1 No Noise AI and Photo RAW do not have this capability and as such you would in fact need to use the Send to or Edit In options to open an image from Photo RAW to No Noise AI.

Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.

So I guess we can only suggest that for Mac users. I assume the Mac versions also do not have this capability, but it does seem to work there.

You can definitely drag from one to the other on a Mac. I always prefer the Send to... option. Unfortunately, once NoNoise has processed an image it doesn't close down or move to the background.

Ray, I think it matters whether it was open first or not. Also whether you use Done or export.

If you let Send To open the program and then use Done at the end, it should close for you.

No, it does not. I've already written to support about the program not closing down when used via plug-in or the Send To… or Drag and Drop. IMO, the only time it should remain open is when your run the program as a stand-alone. If it was opened from another program it should close when returning to that program.

I agree Brian. That's what happens when I send an image to one of the Topaz apps.

I must have been thinking that it goes back to the main page.

There is a plus though when it doesn't close, it's faster to open the next one. Don't have to wait for the program to load. That takes a few seconds on my PC.

Hi everyone, there is a way to do it. Do not open On1 NoNoise AI, drag the image from On1 Photo Raw onto the desktop shortcut icon for NoNoise and it will open NoNoise and let you edit the image. When you click "done" it will ask you where to save (it will default to the folder of the original file) and if you save in the same folder as the original, the image will be there when you return to On1 Photo Raw after closing NoNoise.

If you have several programs open, drag the image onto the Show Desktop button (tiny area at the right hand end of the system tray) and when the desktop appears, you can drag straight to the NoNoise icon. I think it is better to just Send To NoNoise though as you are then automatically returned to your workflow in On1 Photo Raw.

Brian, thanks for the suggestion. I'll give it a try later on.

I submitted a bug report about NoNoise remaining open when used as a plug-in or via the Send To… or the drag & drop method. Just got a message from Cody that the QA team have determined this behavior is a bug and have passed to over to the engineers to be fixed.

Brian Davies, are you using Windows? The shortcut method seems to be working the same as drag and drop for me. It won't let me drop the image.

Hi Rick, yes, I am using Windows 10. As I drag an image out of On1 Photo Raw I see a square thumbnail of the image with a plus sign on it. I simply drag it to the NoNoise shortcut and let go. NoNoise opens and the image loads and appears.

I cancelled editing that image and left NoNoise open. I then dragged another image from On1 Photo Raw to the still open NoNoise screen, there was about a 2 seconds delay and then the image loaded. So dragging straight to the open program is working for me as well. I had not tried it previously as I assumed from other comments that it did not work.

Ok, thanks for clarifying. I don't know why mine is different, I always get the circle with the line through it as in my screenshot above.

Not a problem though (for me) I don't have any issues using Send To.

    Hi rick,

Do you use LUA (it is some kind of cross-platform scripting language, apparently)? According to the Microsoft help forums, if you disable it, you will be able to drag and drop to any program. I cannot verify if this works or not, as my drag 'n' drop already works. Here is a screen capture of the instructions if you want to try it.
