Raw fails to open in NoNoise

That camera is not supported unfortunately. NoNoise AI only works with Tier 1 cameras. Yours is a tier 2 model which means that ON1’s programs do not no how to demosaice the raw data and has to rely on a 3rd party library for help. NNAI works with the raw data to remove the noise from the image. Without being able to interpret the raw data for itself it is unable to do that.

You can export your raw file files, processed or not, to a dng or tiff, etc which the program can work with. The results won’t be quite as good since the noise will have been baked into the image by then.

You can find a list of supported cameras at https://on1help.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360051779231-Supported-RAW-Cameras-File-Formats-ON1-Photo-RAW-2021

My apologies Marc, somehow I missed seeing that last night and only found the LUMIX DMC-FZ8 which is Tier 2.

When you say it refuses to open the files, what exactly does that mean? How are you attempting to open the files and how does the program respond? Have you tried running the program as a stand-alone program and using the normal Open command? Are the FZ8 raw files shown in the Open dialog as something you can select for opening or does it present them as grayed out and not selectable?

    brian,

i use the stand-alone version (10861). i open the program and in the screen i click on "open photos", then the raw files are visible but after selecting a raw file the program don't react anymore. So i have to close nonoise to reuse the program.

When you say the programs doesn't react any more does that mean it has locked up and you have to force quit it? Do you see the low-res image preview? How long do you wait before deciding it isn't working? It does take a few seconds and some users have reported it taking minutes although it shouldn't take that long.

Have you tried Deleting Settings yet? While the article addresses Photo RAW 2020 it is the same for all ON1 products now.

If Deleting Settings and Resetting the program don't work I'll have to direct you to ON1's tech support folks, sorry. How to submit a problem to ON1 Tech Support - A Step-by-step Guide

brian, still a question, when i convert the photos to dng it works, but you said:

The results won’t be quite as good since the noise will have been baked into the image by then

will i loose a lot of quality?

Marc S, It's interesting DNG files work for you but raw files don't. What camera / raw file are you working with?

  • Marc S.

Hi David, as i mentioned in my first post it's a panasonic DMC-FZ8

No, you should not loose any quality. If it's a dng you should be good because it is still the raw data before the noise has been baked in like it would be for an actual image file like jpeg or tiff. The program uses different AI models for raw vs image files.

Note that NoNoise does often take a long time to load a photo. For me it sits with the progress bar at about 2/3 for a few minutes before it completes. I've never had to wait 10 minutes for it though.

Rick, over here even the progressbar isn't working.

Marc, I still find it very interesting that you can open a DNG file with NoNoise but your raw files do not work. So NoNoise works for you just not on your raw files. Do you have access to a different type of raw file to test or perhaps you could upload one of your files to Dropbox and have one of us test your raw file on our system.

I'd be happy to try one of your files Marc.

Got it. So far I'm seeing the same thing. Activity Monitor shows NNAI is doing something but not very hard. It's only using between 4-7% of the processor and less than 2% of the GPU.

I'm headed to bed so I'm going to let it run all night. I'll report back in the morning.

    ok brian, good night :)

what i want to add is that when i open the file in my photoraw it opens immediatly no problems there.

    I checked that too. 😁

OK, 5 hours later and still nothing. The program is not locked up though, it responded when I pressed Command-Q. Whatever activity I noticed last night must have been just normal background stuff.

This is something that support needs to know about. They will need a copy of your photo too.

I tried opening the file in NoNoise on my Windows(11) machine, same result file does not open. Certainly agree with Brian, needs to be reported to support.

I just took a look at the NoNoise log file and found this:

    2021-08-28 8:27:52 ON1 - Event (1006) on line 191 of PCDocItem.cpp
    2021-08-28 8:27:52 ON1 - Event (1006) on line 153 of PCDocMgr.qt.cpp
    2021-08-28 8:27:52 ON1 - Event (1006) on line 2907 of PCPlugin.qt.cpp
    2021-08-28 8:27:52 ON1 - Event (1006) on line 1118 of PCPlugin.qt.cpp

(When I want to look through the log file for things related to a particular problem like this, I'll delete it first so the program creates a new one and only this run of the program will be in it. That reduces the clutter you have to dig through.)

Next I opened one of my raw files. The log was identical up to those error messages above. Instead there was this line:

    2021-08-28 8:31:53 ON1 - PLLrMigrationCacheMgr::initialize - > cache manager initialized.

The only reference to the cache manager I could find in the problem file's log is when it was shut down while shutting down the program after I pressed Command-Q.

That should help the engineers track this down. Be sure to include your log file in your support request. You might want to do the delete, re-create the problem thing first for them.

i don' t know how to make the log file. i will write them to look at this post so they can download the file and try themselves?

It is at C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Roaming\ON1\ON1 NoNoise AI 2021\ON1 NoNoise AI Log.txt.

  • Marc S.

so i have to delete this Log.txt and start the application again?

    0
  • Brian Lawson Community moderator

Yes, delete the file, launch the program and try to open your photo. Wait a couple of seconds then use the Exit command and quit the program. You can then attach the log file to your support request.

It isn't necessary to do this, it just makes for a cleaner log file for them to look through is all.

No problem Marc. That's why we are here and I actually enjoy troubleshooting problems. I get to learn new things I might not have otherwise.
