On1 plugin NON Support

Personally I don't use Lightroom or Photoshop so the plugins aren't useful for me.

I completely understand that.  But way back in the beginning, when On1 was the Perfect suite, they capitalized on the plugin functionality with. PS and LR.  I would venture to guess, it was this functionality which captured the largest customer base.  Now they offer an “upgrade” with less functionality than the prior version.  That is what is important to remember here.  They are not offering a like for like upgrade.  They are charging the same for a piece of software that is a downgrade in feature set. That should concern us all.  What would you say if in the next “upgrade” they broke out the Develop module and charged extra for it?  All I am saying is…an upgrade should be just that…an upgrade.

There is no downgrade in the next version. They are simply removing the plugin ability. You need to remember that in the beginning photo raw was it, there were no other apps. Now that we have resize, portrait and the others as standalone apps photo raw doesnt need to do that as well. If you need the plugin ability, maybe what you need to do is upgrade to the professional pkg instead of photo raw.

Actually On1 is adding a lot of functionality to PhotoRaw 2022 see Brian Lawson's post about two posts down in this thread for a partial list Why should I update to 2022 ? – ON1 Support (zendesk.com)  .  I guess if the added functionality is not enough to offset the plugin thing and it is a deal breaker for you then stay with 2021 as you indicated you were going to.

Yeah…I do love the product.  The 2021 version does everything I need it to do.  So I will stick to 2021 as long as they continue to  support it.  But not cent to their plugin extras.

In reality how many people actually use On1 as the centre of their editing and also as a plugin in something like Lightroom/Photoshop environment?

There may be some and they will be hit by the change but anyone who just uses On1 in plugin mode can upgrade from On1 2021 to Plugins 2022 and carry on as they are.

This splitting off of plugin capability may actually benefit both sets of users - the full On1 product can be simplified by stripping out all the code that supports its use as a plugin and the individual plugins become leaner and meaner so less overhead when calling them from Photoshop etc, and easier to have them function in applications like Capture One which would appear not to support standard Photoshop style plugins.

Compared to the way some other developers seem to create a new incompatible application with no migration process every year the On1 approach seems very reasonable. They are moving to making the same technology available in two different ways to suit different styles of usage.

As someone who has moved to using On1 as my main editor I am looking forward to 2022, I have seen nothing to show that I will not be able to send files to Photoshop and then add extra On1 styling on its return, so no real need for a plugin to be called from Photoshop, and 2022 brings the ability to call Photoshop plugins from On1 making it easier to finish an image off with, say Sharpen AI.

That said I do hope that On1 does note that some people have just used On1 as a plugin and when Plugins 2022 is announced that they will offer an upgrade deal for anyone who wishes to migrate from On1 to Plugins for a similar price as the current 2021 to 2022 deals.

If you are sending to Photoshop just to make use of one of its plug-ins that will no longer be necessary. You can load the Ps plug-ins in Photo RAW and use them right there.

No Brian, using Photoshop to do Photoshop things not just use plugins. Finally cracked understanding Photoshop in first lockdowns of last year and keeping up with it both for things that can't easily be done in On1 and also to find ways to take Photoshop ideas back into On1, e.g. turning gradient maps into LUTs for colour grading and showing highlights/midtones/shadows.

I'm very dissapointed about this. I've been a loyal Pro Plus member for years. This year I had to pay for the licence of noNoise and now when upgrading to this 2022 version after paying for my membership is not enough and I loose functionality

Mmmm, Thinking about abandoning On1 for next subscription

Will the future On1 Plugins 2022 that is mentioned before be free for Pro Plus membership subscription? In that case why should I have two products instead of two as I have now? Will the subscription cost will be the same?

    What a mess and uncertainity!

As a Plus PRO member, you should get the plugins for free. The 2022 plugins haven't been released yet but when they are you should be able to download and install them.

No new free programs to pro members this year.  That was the Pro plus program.  That no longer exists.  You have to buy the upgrade application and all the plugins.

The Plus Pro program does exist if you have been grandfathered into it. I am a Plus Pro user and got my upgrade tp 2022.

Rick, Mickey  I then don't understand your comments

Anyway, I've just installed the 2022 version. The installlation program said it will install plugins for Lightrron (no Photoshop like in the past) but no 2022 plugins were installed in Lightroom

Gonzalo, Photo RAW no longer includes the plug-ins with one exception—the one that allows Lightroom users to migrate their libraries to Photo RAW. The plug-ins are now sold separately and include the stand-alone version of the module that supports that plug-in.

Plus PRO members should be getting the set of plug-ins next month when they have been updated to 2022 and are released.

For those interested Anthony Morganti has a video up on Youtube  that shows how to send to PR 2022 from  Lightroom it's titled " "Yes! You Can get On1 Photo Raw 2022 to Work as a Lightroom Plugin"
