PR2022 and other apps (Topaz, Luminar)
AnsweredI have Topaz apps and Luminar AI and I use to have to use Send to Other application from PR. I’m not quit understanding the Plug-in concept if I don’t have Photoshop. How should I use them now in PR2022? Can I have a new layer created as it was shown without Photoshop?

Topaz DeNoise AI and Sharpen AI can be used via their plug-ins but not Gigapixel AI. Once you have the plug-ins loaded into Photo RAW you go to the Layers menu and at the bottom will be your plug-ins. The other app will be opened and it will return a new Layer to Photo RAW which will cause it to create a new .onphoto file for it.
Scott Davenport has a good video on how all this works on his YouTube channel. Be sure to watch the follow on video that shows how to set Photo RAW's Preferences for all this.

Hi Brian,
I watched Scott’s video, but I’m still not clear on what I need to be adding to the plug-in or sub folder. I understood the Send to Other application as you would point it to the apps .exe, and it knew when to send it. How/what do I need to do the plug-in folder to launch the app and get to send back a Layer when it’s done?
Thanks for your help and quick replies

First, you need to tell Photo RAW where to find the plug-in files. You can do this two ways—by moving them into PR's default PhotoshopPlugins folder, or by pointing PR to where ever they are on your system. If you are already using Photoshop and have all your plug-ins loaded in it the 2nd method is the easiest. I'll explain below.
Here are my Preferences > Plug-ins tab and PhotshopPlug-ins folder.
You can use the Open Default Folder button to show yours in the Finder or Windows Explorer. All you have to do is copy your Ps plug-ins to that folder.
The other method is to click the Secondary Plugin Folder checkbox then the Choose button which will open a standard OS file open dialog where you'll navigate to the other folder containing your plug-ins.
Once you restart Photo RAW and they will show up under the Layers menu in the Editor.
I've described above how this works. This is what you see when you return to PR. (I've renamed the Layer that was returned.)

Thanks Brian.
I found that the Topaz plugins were installed here in this subfolder ( I do still have LR6 installed). I do see them now in the Filters and I also see On1 apps as filters. Should I remove them? I can't see to find the Luminar AI plugins as there were not in this directory installed with the Topaz. I did find a folder and I created a shortcut and added it, but it doesn't display.

No, do not remove the ON1 plug-ins. That will prevent you from using them in Lightroom. Photo RAW ignores its own plug-ins. I tested it before the program was released as I could see an infinitely deep hole getting dug there.
As for the Luminar plug-ins, go search their site for FAQ on how to install them manually. I don't. have it so I don't know about them.

George, you need to copy the plugins to the On1 plugin folder. Mine looks like this with 2 topaz apps.

No, copying them is not necessary. See my comments above about about using the Secondary Plug-ins folder and how you can point Photo RAW to a common source location such as this so you don't have to copy them all over your drive.

Thanks for your help. Your explanation is what I needed to understand what I was missing. I now understand that the Plug-Ins from the other programs is what PR2022 needs in the in the folder.
I always used the other programs as stand alone or "Send To Another Application" in PR. I never used the other apps as a plug-in from LR and never had PS installed. It now makes sense.
Thanks again for your help.

I hope this will help. Windows 10 installation, ON1 2022.5 Luminar Neo
After moving the plug-in file around the disk without success, I reverted to uninstalling Neo, clearing out all the related files and installed it again. Success!! now I can move from ON1 and Neo and back again.
I suspect that older version files were still being involved.
cheers Glyn
