The first thing I would do is Delete Settings followed by Resetting the program.

If neither of those work, uninstall and reinstall the program. After that you'll have to talk with tech support, sorry.

Well, I restarted the photo, saved my work before using any effects and then started to use Replace Colour. I had 3 of these as I was masking colour variations into trees and bushes. First two layers worked ok, then the 3 iteration crashed in the same way; selecting masking brush and changing opacity. The cursor vanished then the program hung. I will try your suggestion. Thank you for your help.

First of all, I uninstalled and reinstalled the whole program. Exactly the same problem. So then I reset the program, as you suggested (I was reluctant to risk having to manually reinstall all the goodies I had with 2021 and feared having to reconstruct my albums, so I tried reinstall first).

Problem seemed to have gone away.

Restored from my original backup after I first installed 2022. Problem still seems to have gone away. Yay! And I have my Albums and 2021 stuff. So I'm happy.

But also baffled. That suggests it's something in Preferences that I changed. But what? I set system usage to 80% (Intel i5, 32gb RAM), I increased the Cache to 10000mb and I switched the scratch file to my second M2 SSD. I upped the graphics strength (nVidia 2060) and changed the tickboxes (like many Windows users, I'm always trying to squeeze a bit more performance out). They were all ticked and I unticked them all. I suspect that the graphics section changes caused the problem. I'm still confused what's best for an upper mid-range graphics card, to be honest. Now I daren't touch anything so it's all on default, lol. :)

These kinds of issues are the worst. I'm glad you got it sorted out.

I have been having similar system crashes (OS hard fault/BSoD (Black screen of death).  I am running an nvidia 1080 Ti graphics card and Ryzen 7 1800x CPU if this helps narrow this issue down.

    Hi Scott,

After checking your video card drivers and system settings I can only refer you to what I told Caroline at the top of the page—Delete Settings and contact tech support.

I'm also having problems with the masking brush disappearing. It will work for a while then suddenly disappear. Restarting the program brings it back.

Graphics card drivers and software have been updated.

crashes when deleting marked duplicate images.
not seen this behaviour in version 2021.

Glyn, you should contact On1 support about this. Explain the problem and tell them what you've already tried.
