That means nonoise won't be applied to your photo until it's exported so you will only see the effect of nonoise while in Edit.

Open the photos the same as you always do.

You open it in the Editor.

Thankyou both for the quick reply. I will export my NoNoise edits to jpeg straight away in future.

Usefully the updated export facility is also vastly improved.

I, too, was noticing the same as David. Thanks for the explanation.

I guess that is why, whenever I re-open a photo, that has previously had NN applied in Edit, it takes about five to eight seconds to completely open again in Edit....the NN has to be reapplied each time the photo is re-opened in Edit.

Am I correct? And by the way, are all previous edits re-applied, but with no noticeable lag as with NN because they don't require quite the same amount computing horsepower as does NN?

    Thanks for any help.

    Best regards, Angus

Yes, you're understanding is correct. Applying the NoNoise AI requires much more GPU horsepower to do its work.

Thanks for your quick reply. I'm relieved to know that there wasn't something wrong with my PC!!

Along these same lines, what are the minimum hardware requirements to enable  NN AI to run reasonably quickly...say, to apply the effect in a few seconds?

    Thanks again,

    Angus

I don't know. I don't know if there have been any tests to measure that performance. I'm running a Mac Mini M1 which is pretty quick and it can take 5-10 seconds to open some of my images where NoNoise has been used. The larger the file, the longer it takes of course.

You'd have to ask tech support if the company has done any performance testing for NNAI.

    Thanks, Brian.

I appreciate your comments. Likewise my images take about 5-10 seconds to re-open in Edit if NN has been previously applied., or indeed to apply NN in the first edit.

I wonder if any PC or Mac can render NN almost instantly...good idea to check with tech support. Anyway, I love NN so much that I'm using it on almost all my pics. I think it does a great job with its detail and sharpening as well as with the NR. I find I usually back off the luminance slider to about 50% so the pics don't look plasticky.

I wonder if any PC or Mac can render NN almost instantly… I doubt it, otherwise I'm sure the engineers would have done it. The problem is because of Photo RAW's non-destructive workflow the image has to be analyzed by the AI and the noise reduction applied again before the image can be displayed with it in place and that takes time.

You can choose a lower default setting in Preferences > General but I still lower it too.

    Thanks again, Brian.

I had mine set on high. Now as per your helpful suggestion - I reset mine to Low, it shaved off about 3 seconds for NN to render....YEA!!

I have 4GB in my graphic card and it takes 3 minuets to render after i run No Noise

This has all happened since the last windows update !

Windows updates are notorious for resetting graphics settings and installing older versions of drivers even with a major upgrade such as 10 to 11.

This is all from Windows 10 so you'll have to make some allowances for changes in the OS but it does outline what you need to do. Start by insuring you have installed the latest drivers from your video card manufacturer's web site.

Alec, if you are running Windows 11 on a dual GPU laptop please see my comments in the first post on this thread: (Note although my comments might seem Nvidia specific they hold true for AMD GPUs as well )

David, I use windows 10 and I just couldn't be bothered using NoNoise now as it's too slow, so I've gone back to Topaz, it's a lot faster. Having to go into edit to review and that takes 3 plus minutes to render, NoNoise is a NO NO for me.

    Anyway thanks for your help.
