On1 2022 runs slower and slower
I was working on a big project and using 2021 when I got the email indicating all the plugins were now available for 2022. When I went to download them all, I noticed that there was an update to 2022. Since I had not yet installed the new version I just went ahead downloaded and installed the updated 2022 as my first install of the application. Once installed and activated, I tried to start using it. The first few photos I edited were fine although I noticed that when I went to crop after the cropping in the first photo it took longer than normal to bring up the crop function. Once up I cropped and moved onto the next photo and it kept taking longer and longer for the crop feature to become available to use. Every part of the program that I was using was taking longer and longer as well. Exporting edited photos were very slow. After working with about 10 images I timed how long it took the crop function to appear to be able to crop and it was over 2 minutes. At that point I went back to my 2021 version and it is working fine. I used it to finish up my project. My hardware is the same hardware that runs 2021 fine as is the OS. I don't know why 2021 runs fine and 2022 has this issue. I have not tried to install any of the plugins that came with the new version yet. I'm afraid to. Restarting the application does not seem to fix the issue and actually is picking up with the slowness encountered each time I try. I even rebooted to no avail. Currently 2021 or 2020 are my only options.
Any ideas what is happening? Do I need to uninstall and start from scratch installing the first version of 2022 and then updating to the new update? I am continuing to use 2021 since 2022 is unusable in its current form.

Do you use Catalogs? They could be in the process of being rebuilt which does push your system to its limits. Once the rebuilding has finished you should see performance return to normal.

I don't know what catalogs are. So I guess not.

There isn't any need, nor will you be able, to download the original Photo RAW 2022 release. ON1 only makes the most recent release available for download.

Same issues here - I've found running the program off an SSD and having the photo storage/library on a different SSD has improved my times slightly but I will go in and manually clear the cache and restart the program every 15-30 minutes or so to keep it from being completely useless. I would go back to 2019 build, but I'm trying to use the time-lapse feature which is only available on 22...

Are you using the default location for the program's Scratch space? The default is on the boot drive with all the OS paging files and its scratch space. Moving the Scratch space to an SSD that isn't being used for anything else while you are running Photo RAW will give you a better performance boost than running the program from one.
Here are links to other topics in the forums where this has been discussed in detail.

This is the first chance I've had to come back to this. I can uninstall the update version I installed and try installing the original version since I had downloaded it when it first became available but never installed it. I was hoping to find that some glaring issue was discovered that an update was created to correct. I've never experienced any issues running any software on this system. If anything it runs all my software lightning faster than my previous version especially with the bump up to the 6-core processor (previous was a quad-core) and the doubling of memory to 32gb. As far as where I install the software, it goes wherever the On1 installer places it. I make no changes to the default paths chosen by On1. I've always accepted the defaults when installing On1 going all the way back to 2017. My C: drive is a 500Gb PCI-e SSD mounted directly on the motherboard which is much faster than a SATA SSD.
Everything about this system I am running is way faster than any previous system I've used. And it still runs the 2021 version of On1 just fine.

My C: drive is a 500Gb PCI-e SSD mounted directly on the motherboard which is much faster than a SATA SSD. You will still see an improvement in performance if you move the Scratch space to another drive. The idea is to separate Photo RAW's scratch I/O from all the other I/O taking place on your boot drive—the OS paging/cache/swap space, and whatever all the other software running in the background is doing. Read the articles I provided links for above.
Have you double-checked the video card drivers and settings per the articles I linked to above? Troubleshoot Slow Performance, Hanging, Freezing or Crashing - All ON1 Programs and "OpenGL 3.3 and Later is Required" - How to Update Video Card Driver (Windows Only) - Photo RAW?

Brian - I had verified that I had the latest video drivers and current on all updates and still no improvement. Earlier this week I launched 2022 for the first time in a while and saw there was an update to the application. I downloaded it and installed it and so far all the slowness issues appear to be gone. I have not yet had to edit a large number of photos like I was doing when I first discovered the extreme slowness so I don't know for certain if it is totally resolved. I tried to recreate the workflow I was using in 2022 when I experienced the slowness and none of the slowness appeared. It was performing like the 2021 version did. My initial indication is that it is resolved so something in the application was updated that fixed this. It may have been specific to hardware I have installed on my workstation, but I still insist that 2021 worked flawlessly and based on that feel that 2022 should not have had this issue I experienced. I will update once I have a large number of photos to edit to verify. Now I have to learn about all the changes between 2021 and 2022, but at least now I can.

Brian - That last update has definitely fixed the slowness issue for my system. Whatever was addressed nailed it. I have not made any changes to my hardware or drivers (all drivers were current) or even moving my scratch space off of my C: drive and it is performing like the 2021 version. I would be curious to know what was addressed or changed in this release to fix the issue.

That's good to hear Robert. I wish the company would be more forthcoming about what has been fixed in each release too.
