OS Monterey Update
AnsweredI'm not a "techie", so I ask this:
Is it recommended to go with the OS Monterey upgrade for Photo Raw 2022 to gain any performance benefits? Are there any performance benefits, if hardware remains the same?
Or:
Is it better to wait until Monterey settles down in the community.

That's a decision you have to make for yourself. I've updated to Monterey and I'm not having any problems running Photo RAW on it.

Thank's Brian that's nice to know.
I understand about it being being an individual decision, just wondered if there were known specifics for ON1 users. Particularly when I believe the OS does not support Mac Pro's prior to late 2013 models. Replacement is a large investment, but good for Apple!

I've found one oddity that could be either PR or the OS or some combination of both. I'm keyboard oriented for driving my computer; I like to use the hotkeys. I keep the program's window filling the screen with the Menubar still visible. When I use Shift-F to view an image in Full Screen Preview then press it again to leave that view mode, my entire PR window collapses down to the size of its splash screen. If I press the G key to return to the Grid View instead then things work normally.
It's a minor inconvenience until I retrain myself to use the G key. 😀

Thanks Brian, as you say some issues can be inconveniences, not show stoppers.

Im on monterey, I5 Mac book pro and I am having all sorts of problems with things hanging with the 2022 version of On1 - very frustrating.

Thanks Ian, ..... and you did not have these problems with 2022 and Big Sur is that correct?

Ian, you haven't posted anything here about them. Have you contacted tech support yet? Or post here and we can try to help.

Hi Brian. What is the best thing to send to tech support? Is there a crash log in ON1?
Douglas, I upgraded to Monterey a little while ago, only upgraded to 2022 in the last couple of days.

It's a little late now, but there are instructions on what to send...

I am not having problems with On1 running Monterey on an M1 iMac but there does appear to be an issue with memory leaks hitting some applications. I have had to force quit Photoshop a couple of times when it hit nearly 100 Gbytes of memory. Different users have reported problems with different applications and sometimes needed to restart system to recover.
So perhaps if you are not in a hurry to upgrade it might be worth waiting until there is an update that fixes this.

Howard Oakley has been writing about memory leaks in Monterey but they seem to be tied to some pretty specific actions as opposed to a general problem with the OS.

The only thing that might apply to my set up is that I had the pointer size set one notch up. I have set it down to lowest setting and will see what happens. As I said it was Photoshop that ended up consuming all the memory in my recent hang-ups which is not mentioned in the article.

Ian, thanks for that info. Normally I go with latest OS because Apple don't alway offer support unless you're running their latest version. I just felt that Monterey was primarily to support M1 and device syncing technology, so I'll hold off for a while.
Thanks Brian, and all responders, much appreciated.

Just to add to discussion.
I recently had issues with mounting an external RAID drive. I found out It was associated with OS11 Big Sur, so tried Monterey on my MacBook and problem disappeared. So now have upgrade to OS 12.1 on the Mac Pro
No problems with any software I've used since.

Brian, how do we mark a discussion as "Solved". Or do you do that?
Thanks
