On1 NoNoise 2022 no effect on image
I just purchased and installed the new NoNoise 2022 on my Windows 1o desktop. I downloaded it to the D drive as my C drive is rapidly running out of space impacting my useage. I use Lightroom and have tried several ways of trying to get this program to work. It opens with the image but when I try to "apply" noise reduction, it literally doesn't change a thing. It looks identical. I even tried the sample milky way image that comes with product to see the results and same thing. it literally did nothing. After reading a bit, it may seem that my issue may be possibly related to the fact I installed on another drive instead of default drive where Lightroom and Photoshop are. SO, I tried to uninstall but I cannot. It will not let me. When I go to the System->Apps->uninstall I click the "uninstall" button but again, literally nothing happens. So, I am at a point where i have a faulty program that does not work as intended and cannot be uninstalled. I am at a total loss of how to proceed. I am not the most tech savvy but not a total dope either so hopefully someone has a possible suggestion as to how I can uninstall this program and try it again. Any tips/hints would be greatly appreciated.

The program must be installed on your C: drive.

I have exactly the same issue.
But I DID use the default installation which installed it on my C: drive
On Windows 10.

Terry, what are your system specs? Are you editing a RAW image or some other type?

Brett, Look to see if there is a "Maintenancetool" in the directory on the drive Nonoise is installed on. If there is use that to uninstall - see this article for details How to Uninstall if You've Installed to a Custom Location (Windows) – ON1 Support (zendesk.com)

Terry - do you have a discrete GPU or are you using CPU integrated graphics?
0 -
Hi David.
I'm using the Graphics that's comes on the Motherboard
So I guess that's CPU integrated graphis.A few more bits of info...
Name Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600
Resolution 3840 x 2160 x 30 hertz
Bits/Pixel 32Open GL 4.3
Open CL 1.2
DirectX RT version 12
DirectX hardware 11.10 -
Terry, yes you are using CPU integrated graphics. That CPU is about 7.5 yrs old - released in June of 2014. I'm thinking it is probably going to really struggle with processing in On1.
You can try.
1: Make sure video drivers are up to date
How to update video card drivers – ON1 Support (zendesk.com)
2: In Windows Graphics settings make sure On1 Nonoise is set to high power.

Terry, NoNoise AI uses different noise removal engines for RAW files vs pixel image files like JPG. It cannot do as good a job with the noise removal as the noise has already been baked into the photo. I'm not sure what file type the sample file is but I'm guessing it is a jpeg.
What happens when you try one of your own RAW files?

Hi Brian.
As mentioned, I have tried with a RAW image from a Lumix G

Hi David.
Topaz DeNoise runs pretty fast (about 2 seconds for a 12MP RAW2 file) and I read that On1 was faster.
(and yes, my system is getting on a bit :) )
But there's a difference between struggling and waiting long after the CPU usage has dipped. Task manager doesn't register much load.0 -
Terry, Topaz and On1 process files differently, because of this comparing their performance on a given machine is a bit of false equivalency. When looking at what is running you want to check GPU usage in task manager along with CPU usage. Your integrated graphics will show up as GPU 0. My Nvidia 2060 GPU with 6GB video ram usage goes as high as 40% usage when processing Nonoise.

Hi David.
Opening a 12MP RW2 file makes the CPU jump by about 5% and the GPU0 (3D) to 87% for about 2 seconds.
When I move the preview line around, CPU goes up buy about 3% GPU (3D) goes up to 85% and it all settles down within about 1.5 seconds of releasing the mouse.all other GPU metrics remain about zero.

That tells me the program is doing something even if you can't see it.
Try setting all sliders to 0 then adjust the Luminance slider back and forth between 0 and 100 and watch closely for any affect. Try enlarging the view to 200% to make the noise more visible.
Leave the Luminance slider at 0 and adjust the Sharpening slider back and forth as above. You should definitely see artifacts start to appear when the sharpening gets too high.
If you see any changes then you know that the program is working as intended. If you still do not see anything happening you should talk to tech support with lots of screen shots showing the tests I've described.

Terry, Here's a real life example on my laptop.
When set Windows to use the intel integrated graphics for On1 when running the GPU usage goes to 88% to 90% and it takes about 1:45 minutes to process at which time the usage drops. When I switch to the Nvida GTX 1650 GPU on my laptop that GPU usage only goes to ~27% and Nonoise processes in about 1:15 minutes. My laptop has a 9th gen I5 processor which was released in 2018.
My desktop PC 11th gen I5 with an Nvida 2060 it takes a matter of seconds to process a 40mb file
Please forgive me if this is a stupid question but when you say Nonoise has no effect you are clicking on the Nonoise tab and you see the comparison divider appear??

Hi David.
It's the standalone ON1 NoNoise 2022 (14 day trial).
And what you see here was screen shotted when there was very low system activity.
Maybe my lack of high, long lasting GPU / CPU activity is a sign that it's just not even trying to do the job?
0 -
No, once the program has done its evaluation the GPU is no longer needed except to drive the display as normal. You'll only see increased GPU/CPU activity when the program is actually doing something besides presenting a static display.
What is the ISO setting for that photo? Would you care to share it with us to try on our machines?

I think I'll go for an unistall / reinstall.
See if that has an effect.

You said you're using a Lumix G. Can you be more specific? I'm looking through the list of supported cameras and file types and I don't see that specifically.
What happens if you set everything to 100%? That should definitely show some kind of difference. I want to go to extremes so it is easy to see what is happening if anything.
If you let me download your file I can try it on my system and see if there is any difference in what happens with the photo. You can post it to a file sharing site and post the download link here for us.

Wow. So many comments. Lots of info. Glad I am not alone. I'd be curious if you can uninstall your program as that is what I cannot do on me end, personally. I am going to look into rebooting in safe mode and see if I can uninstall that way. if that does not work I may have to resort to a reset which I REALLY do not want to do. My computer is about 5 years old now, windows 10 intel i5 16gb RAM .

Also, @terry I am glad that I am not only person having this issue.

Why are you unable to uninstall the program? You can simply drag the application folder and all your user data to the trash. Your user data is at C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\ON1.

Hi Brian.
More specifically the Camera is a Panasonic Lumix DMC-G3.
But I think I've found the issue now...0 -
Hi David.
I think I have found the reason.
Thanks for pointing me in this direction.I didn't notice this before but the Shared GPU memory usage maxes out at 2GB and stays there.
So if it's having a hard time with the memory then it stands to reason the GPU 'CPU' usage is going to be low.0 -
Hi Brett.
I uninstalled the program with Revo Uninstaller and it just uninstalled it without issue.
0 -
Thanks, Terry. It is a Tier 1 supported camera which is what I was looking for.
The low amount of memory available to your GPU could well be the reason you're not seeing anything. Again, this is something you should ask support about. They should have a better idea of the program's limitations with lower powered GPUs.

Hi Brian. So, issue I am having is that when I try to uninstall and reinstall on C: drive, when I go into system->apps->uninstall nothing happens when I click the "uninstall" button. It's illuminated like it's active but when I click on it to uninstall nothing happens. So frustrating that I cannot get anything with this program to function remotely proper. Not sure if it was mentioned in fine print I may have missed but never saw any info about HAVING to install on C: drive. When I did initial install, it said at the very end something about unable to add Lightroom plugins ,if I recall. Right out of the gate I have had issues ,unfortunately.

Hi Brett.
Just out of interest could your original issue of not being able to see any affect on the photo, be the same as mine?
Could it be attributed to low memory / low power of your graphics card?0 -
The OS uninstaller does not work properly for some reason I don't understand. I don't run a Windows system so I haven't been able to look into it.
In this case, all you want to get rid of is the application itself so just delete its program folder from your external drive and re-run the installer to put it on the C: drive.
Sorry about the documentation not saying anything about it needing to be installed on C:. That's out of my hands. 😀
