Layers not working in v ON1 2022.1
Hi - I discovered weird issue with latest version ON1 2022.1.
Until now layers were no problem (e.g. plug-ins from Topaz) however after installing latest update they work no more - ON1 will do nothing. Everything is unchanged, checked the location where they should be and they are there, just clicking on filter result in nothing. Anybody else has this problem?
-
Is the program recognizing that they have been installed? What do you see when you go to Preferences > Plug-ins and click the Open Default Folder button? You should see the folder with the plug-ins in it. If not, you need to copy the plug-ins to the default folder.

Yes I see the default folder - and everything I need is there (same as with previous ver. of 2022. However upon invoking Layers/Filters... nothing happens. I reinstalled the program, reset the settings to no-avail.

Can you show me the same two screens I've shown above please? I want to see your Photo RAW Preferences > Plug-ins window and the contents of the plug-ins folder in the Finder or Windows Explorer.

This might be a Topaz issue. A new version of DeNoise AI has just been released and the devs have advised that it won't work with PhotoRaw. Instead, they recommend reverting to an earlier iteration. I can confirm that this is indeed the case. However, Sharpen AI is working fine. Gigapixel doesn't work as a PhotoRaw plugin yet. I don't use Studio2 so can't confirm one way or other.
I am on a Mac.

Luckily both latest Denoise (updated today) and Sharpen work fine - whatever devs say. However Studio 2 - and nothing else from Topaz - doesn´t work which is annoying as Studio was my central hub to Topaz applications. It was OK yesterday with previous version ON1 2022 but not today with latest release (2022.1). Luckily - at least - editing as separate file it still works, but manually creating layers is just workaround . I hope that it will be sorted out soon.

This could be a Windows issue. I have just sent an image from On1 to Studio 2 on my Mac, added B&W filter and sent it back to On1. New B&W layer created as normal.
When I last looked at Topaz Studio I had issues with a warning box getting hidden behind other windows and things didn't work until I responded to this, but can't remember the details. Have you tried minimising windows to check for this?

I just updated DeNoise on my M1 iMac and it vanished from list of filters in On1. In the Photoshop plugin folder there were two entries for DeNoise - file and folder.
I deleted these and restarted Denoise and let it reinstall the plugin.
Still did not work in On1 so I copied the plugin file from the Photoshop plugins and pasted it into On1's own plugin folder and now it works.
When I tested Denoise from On1 during beta testing it all worked, so it looks like a bit of Sod's Law in that Topaz made a change at the same time as On1 released 2022.1.

David: You seem to have had better luck than me! Like you, I had no issues with the DeNoise 3.4 beta as an On1 plugin. But then came yesterday's update to PR together with the release of 3.4 production version.
I don't have PhotoShop so I copied the plugin to the correct On1 folder in my Library via Show Package Contents (as recommended by Brian). As soon as I launched the plugin, a window came up with a crash log, even though PR had not actually crashed. However, DNAI did not launch at all. Weird behaviour that I have reported to both On1 and Topaz support.
AS suggested by Topaz I have reverted to DNAI v 3.2. It's not M1 native so somewhat slower..
Maybe you have more RAM than me. I am on an M1 Mac Mini with 16GB.

I would say whatever it is, it has to do something with new ON1 release. Old installation was overwritten, nothing else changed and now Topaz plugins (apart Denoise and Sharpen) cannot be used. BTW I deleted everything from ON1 starting from 2021 version, NoNoise standalone and tons of files in system directories. Virtually every footprint of ON1. I haven´t touche registry though. And then reinstalled ON1 2022.1. To no-avail.

I haven't updated my Topaz programs yet but both DeNoise AI and Sharpen AI are still working for me with yesterday's update. That tells me it isn't a Photo RAW problem unless Topaz has changed something causing the break.
I did have to return to the Browser to save the .onphoto file after the first plug-in was used before the 2nd would work properly.

Brian: the issue is with DNAI 3.4 combined with yesterday's update to PR 2022. See what happens if you update the former.
SAI 3.3.5 works fine.

I'm going to update everything in a little while. I also have to get Filter Forge 11 plug-ins reinstalled. I'll report back later.

The same here, only Denoise and Sharpen AI plugins are working. Deinstalled 2022.1 and return to the previous version (16.0.1.11212) and all plugins Skylum, Nik collection and Topaz are working fine.

I have created a ticket for this issue - so I am waiting for the response.

Brian, is the Filter Forge 11 plugin working for you? I'm not having any luck with it.
0 -
Yes it does. I just now installed it by dragging an alias of the Filter Forge 11 program folder to Photo RAW's PhotoshopPlugins folder.

Topaz have been quick off the mark and released a patch to DeNoise AI (v3.4.1). It now works fine both as standalone and as a plugin. I have only tried once but fingers crossed.

I'm not having any luck with Filter Forge on Win 11. Luminar AI won't work anymore as well. Topaz Denoise and Sharpen are working. On Windows 11 I've just been copying the .8BF files to the On1 photoshop plugin folder. As you can see PR 2022.1 sees them but the programs won't launch.

Don't copy the FF .8bf files. I put an alias to the program's folder in my PhotoshopPlugins folder. The FF application folder contains a single plug-in file which packages together the individual pieces you are copying. I don't know if the Windows version does it the same way or not.

I´ve got a response from ON1 tech support:
-----------------------------
Hello,
Our dev team has discovered a bug with the .1 update and the emulator that gets installed to facilitate Plugin usage within the app.
You'll want to download the attached zip file and extract it and move the .EXE into the following location where the ON1 PHOTO RAW 2022.EXE file is located (see attached)
C:/Program Files/ON1/ON1 PHOTO RAW 2022: (Place extracted .EXE file in this folder location)
This should correct the issue.
We've logged a bug for this issue.Stevie /Tech support & QA Engineer
-----------------------
For me (Windows 10) it works perfectly OK and all my plugins are working now.
Brian - there is one file "ON1 Photoshop Emulator.exe" (received from Tech suppport via e-mail) which has to be copied into ON1 ...Prgoram files/On1/On1 Photoraw 2022. Can you help distributing it - I do not how to do it.

My suggestion would be to post something on the two Facebook groups telling the Windows users there who are having problems with their plug-ins to contact support and ask for it from them. I'm not comfortable distributing software I didn't write.

OK - no facebook for me.
So if anybody from Win camp want to solve the problem - contact the ON1 support
id294280
from them I´ve got the solution + file. Otherwise a patch will come - hopefully soon

If I see something come up there I'll let them know what to do.
Thanks for the heads up.

I have just tested Topaz Denoise on M1 iMac and it now works as a plugin without needing to copy the plugin file to the On1 plugin folder.
I have also tested Filter Forge 11 where I have still got a link to its plugin library in the On1 plugin folder, which was a fix I have needed from the beginning. Took its time but did work.
I am now able to call several plugins in a single editing session and in general they appear to work ok, this was not the case before 2022.1. The exception is that if I call two Topaz plugins one after the other they execute normally but second one does not create a new layer. Difficult to tell if this is because layer has been updated in place or not. I will do more tests

I found that when you want to call 2 Topaz plug-ins you have to save the results of the first use before calling the 2nd. I think sending the unsaved .onphoto file for the 2nd plug-in is confusing things.

I got the emulator file Vladislav mentions above from support. Nik plugins work now. Filter Forge plugin attempts to run the Filter Forge application but it generates an Emulator error. So, I guess I'll just wait for a future update on that one which isn't a big deal as I don't use Filter Forge a lot anyway.

I have just had the email from Topaz about DeNoise 3.4, it includes a note saying that one needs to launch it stand alone in order to reauthorise it for Photoshop and Lightroom plug-in use. I wonder if this could be behind some of the problems that people have noted with accessing it from On1.
