Normally, applying a Preset will replace any Effects or Local Adjustments you've made. You can go to the Effects panel first then press the Option/Alt key when applying one and that will add it to whatever you've already done.

Presets are discussed in the User Guide starting on page 107.

    Hi Brian,

i have figured out that if you are in browse mode, the presets will replace the effects, in edit mode it will be added to already existing effects. The Option/Alt key did not have any effect at my computer (Mac OS).

If I want to start from scratch in edit mode the Settings -> Reset Effect Settings to be done first. But once in browse mode it will refresh the picture only when in detail view.

I think I got confused not considering in what mode I am (edit/browse)....

    Thanks

    Gerald

I suggest you read the section I referenced in the User Guide. From page 109:

    Inserting presets (Effects tab only)
When you click on a preset, Photo RAW’s default behavior is to remove any existing adjustments and apply the newly chosen preset to your photo. Sometimes, however, you would like to add a preset on top of your adjustments. To do this, open the Presets pane, right-click (Option-click on MacOS) on the preset you wish to add, and choose Insert Preset from the pop-up. This will add the preset’s filters above the currently selected filter pane and preserves edits you made in the Develop or Local tabs.
The Inset Preset option is only available when working in the Effects tab.
Inserting a preset will only add that preset’s Effects filters to your currently edited photo. Develop adjustments and local adjustment layers will not be added.

Gerald, there is a typo in the User Guide. You're right, Option-clicking a Preset does nothing. We have to Control-click it then choose the Insert Preset command.

    Sorry for the confusion.

    Dear Brian,

finally I got the reason why sometimes the preset is added or overwritten.
You would even not necessary open the context menu with the control+click.

On1 Photo Raw differers between single click (overwrite) and double click (add).
-> that was a hidden secret / easter egg :-)

Sometimes the layout changed not that fast and I was not sure if my click was recognised so I double the click and voila the behavior was changing from overwrite to add.

Maybe your and my finding we can share with ON1 to update the manual if its worth it.

Thank you for your support! I always appreciate.

    Kind Regards,
    Gerald

I've already reported the typo in the guide.

On my system, when I double-click on a Preset it gets applied twice, overwriting what was there originally.

yes, you are right. I don't think then this is a planned behaviour. Should this then be reported as a bug?

I don’t think so. The program is seeing two clicks on the preset so it applies it twice. Since the Preset is replacing whatever is already there, the second application is simply replacing the first application and you get exactly the same thing as a single click. I would just Undo the second click to get it out of the history and keep going editing.
