Presets question
I have been learning more about presets.
Recently watched Henry Hudsons video about on1 filters and he uses term "effects filter" for a filter which does not change global develop settings but changes the effects settings to achieve the result. Can I generally assume that On1 presets will only affect the Effects stack?
What is the difference between a LUT and an ON1 LUT preset. Some "LUTS" on the ON1 site are provided both as .CUBE files and and as .on1preset files

Can I generally assume that On1 presets will only affect the Effects stack? No. A Preset can contain any editing changes made in any of the editing modules. Hudson specifically creates Presets which only hold Effects.
An ON1 LUT Preset contains a LUT. A LUT is a LUT no matter how it gets applied. Camera Profiles are LUTs which are applied at the beginning of the processing pipeline.

Thanks Brian
I guess that means I have to vet each preset then to be certain that my initial global tone and color corrections are not overwritten.
A LUT preset and .CUBE LUT are redundant and both need not be installed?

There are different ways a LUT can be created. A CUBE file is one of those ways. They would be redundant only if both the CUBE LUT and the LUT inside the Preset created identical results. You'd have to turn off all the other Preset settings leaving only the LUT to compare them.
Looking through the LUT's I have installed, they are all .cube files. You can view them at
C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\ON1\Extras 2022\LUTs
~/Application Support/ON1/Extras 2022/LUTs

The preset is only required to make it show up in the Preset list. Without the Preset, the Lut is only available manually from the LUT filter.

Got it . Thanks

FWIW, the other type of LUT file that Photo RAW supports is .3DL. See page 148 in the User Guide for more info.
