No Noise AI not applied to browse view (no preview image stored?)
AnsweredHi
No noise AI integrated into 2022 is great. But when I apply it it doesn't remove noise while in browse mode. The image is still shown with all the noise. If I open for editing, then it seems the noise removal has to be recalculated again, then it shows OK.
Is there a way to get the image to show noise free while browsing?
Thanks.

This is how NoNoise AI works. It gets applied while the RAW data is being demosaiced and it will be performed each time you open the file in the Editor. If you use the large Photo View you should see the noise removal.
I just created a new Version for an image I had not processed before then applied NoNoise AI to it. Opening both the original, unprocessed RAW file and the noise reduced version in compare mode clearly shows the difference.

So I have an image with no noise applied. If I switch from edit to browse, still with the image full screen, the de-no-noised image is still shown.
If (while in browse) I go to grid view, then open the image large again, I only see the image with the noise. Noise will only get removed again if I enlarge the image to 1:1 view, or go into edit mode again. And then it can take around 20 to 30 secons to re-apply.This causes a problem when needing to show images to others by stepping through them in browse mode. It is not possible to show the de-noised version.
Is there no way to generate a rendered preview for browse mode?

Do you use Catalogs? If so, a rendered preview should be saved to the PerfectBrowseCache for display in the Browser. If not it gets saved to the program's Cache space and will get removed when the cache gets filled and more space is needed for new images. You might want to read through the Knowledge Base article on Catalogs and Caches for a complete description of how this is handled.
The rendered preview is automatically generated as I've described above.
What happens when you perform the steps I described above? Can you post a screenshot as I've done?
Have you tried the Delete Settings function yet? If that doesn't help try the Reset ON1 Photo RAW 2022 function also described in the Delete Settings article.

The image is in a catalog. However, when I first created the catalogs, there was a progress indication for the catalog. That doesn't appear now, is it possible the preveiw generation process is not happening?
I've tried deleting settings. That makes no difference.
EDIT:
I've tried side by side. The no- noise image is on the right. If I view side by side immediately after viewing full size, and letting no noise be applied, then I can see the de-noised image. However, if I then browse other images, and go back to this pair, the one on the right (with denoise applied) actually shows noisier than the one on the left with all settings removed. (Note I have a default preset for this camera which applies a moderate standard noise removal)0 -
Can you send me a download link for the version with NoNoise AI applied along with its .on1 sidecar file please? Zip them together then upload the zip file to a web sharing site such as Dropbox or WeTransfer then post the download link here.
You should see a progress indicator even after the program has finished building the Catalog. It should show 100% at that time.
You said that you tried Delete Settings but did not mention the Reset ON1 Photo RAW 2022 option. That is the next step. It will delete your Albums, Catalogs, and Caches so you'll have to rebuild the Catalogs and Albums after. If we have to go to tech support for this (I won't know until after I look at your photo on my system) they will want you to do these steps so you might as well do them now and save some time. Just be sure to tell them in your support request — if we get to that point.

Hi
Here is the requested zip file via we transfer (including an xmp file - not sure if you need that)
LINK REMOVED
Here is a screenshot of my catalogued folders showing lack of "progress" percent:
I am concerned about the need for "Reset everything" for tech support. I've only been using (more or less trialling) PR for just over a month, so only have two albums which can easily be rebuilt. Obviously catalogued folders can be rebuilt automatically - however I'm migrating from lightroom where I have hundreds of nested albums. A lot of work goes into building albums, and if there are frequent glitches that require those albums to be remade manually in order to get support, then ON1 is not fit for purpose. Unless I am missing something, and there is a way to recover the albums automatically.

I've downloaded you image if you want to remove the download link. I'll take a look at it a little later.
What I do with my Albums is give their contents a Keyword that matches the album's name. When I have to rebuild an Album a search for that keyword will return all that album's contents so it is easy to recreate that album.
I wouldn't say there are 'frequent' glitches requiring the program to be Reset but I have used it a few times in the past.

Thanks - I've just been looking at nested keywords. It looks like it might be better to use these instead of albums, assuming they survive a full reset.

The internal keywords database will be deleted as part of the reset along with all the program's internal databases. However, those keywords are in the .on1 & .xmp sidecars so the database will get rebuilt as the catalogs get rebuilt or you browse through folders which are not cataloged.

When I view your photo in Photo View I am seeing the noise removal. In fact, I can see it kick in when I zoom in to 100% as the photo gets rendered after I view another image to clear the buffer.
In the Thumbnail View it will not be shown as noted when you hover over the NoNoise AI badge in the lower right corner of the thumbnail.
Try doing what I did in the screen capture movie I posted to the Dropbox link above and see if you can see it happen on your system. I moved to a different folder and Quit Photo RAW to insure that all the program's browser view buffers were cleared before I started the recording. If you do not see it kick in as I did I recommend performing the Reset ON1 Photo RAW 2022 function and if you still cannot see it I'm going to have to refer you to tech support.
How to submit a problem to ON1 Tech Support - A Step-by-step Guide

Hi again. Thanks so much for investigating.
That is exactly what I see also. But like you, I have to zoom to 100% before it kicks in (and takes about 20 seconds to apply - yours is quicker, but I've not yet moved the folder to my SSD while I'm still trialling).
That is what I tried to describe up-thread - obviously not very successfully 🙃. However I expected a de-noised preview would be in the perfect browse cache to be displayed when not at 100%. The problem is when showing the images in browse mode (especially to others) - the images still have the noise, and having a multi second delay while noise removal is done does not make a good show.
However if that is the expected behaviour, I'll have to export first before presenting the images. Thanks again,
Ant
