"Read error (reason unknown)"
If I catalog a folder in ON1 Photo Raw 2022 that "lives" inside Microsoft OneDrive, I can't delete a file from the folder. When I try to do so, get an error message saying "Read error (reason unknown)." This happens both on my iMac and on my MacBook. I just updated to 2022.5 hoping this would solve the problem. It didn't. I reported this to the ON1 staff some time ago. They said they could not replicate the problem. Has anyone else here experienced this? If so did you resolve problem?

I would start by checking the permissions for your OneDrive folder make sure you have full permissions to read and write to it. Also check the System Preferences > Security and Privacy > Full Disk Access and Files and Folders. Make sure ON1 Photo RAW 2022 is shown in both of them. If not, add it by unlocking the preference panel then clicking the + button and navigating to your Applications > ON1 Photo RAW 2022 folder.

Yes, I’ve done all that, multiple times. I just re-checked after the update to ON! 2022.5 and too the permissions ar properly set. I have also uninstalled and then reinstalled ON1, and also uninstalled and reinstalled OneDrive. None of that has made any difference at all. ON1 is he *only* program I use that has this problem

You’ll have to talk to tech-support about that then. Sorry. Click the submit a request link below

I did that six months ago, Sent them all the system snapshots and related info they requested. And as I said in my initial post, all they could tell me in the end is that they could not replicate the problem. That’s why I made the post; I was hoping someone here might help when the update to 2022.5 didn’t sort out whatever the problem is.

I encountered the same error. I'm using PR 2023 on my Mac. It reads and writes to the images in my OneDrive folder (I have the files saved locally, NOT Files on Demand) but if I try to delete an image from inside PR 2023, it gives the error "Read error (reason unknown)".
I tried changing permissions to the top level folder and all contents to no avail. The only way I have found to get around this is not at all ideal. I had to put my folder of photos somewhere other than OneDrive which renders keeping my photos in the OneDrive folder pointless.
Hopefully On1 will come up with a solution as I've not had issues with my other photography apps (DxO PhotoLab 5, Exposure X7, Luminar NEO) being able to access/delete photos that were saved locally in my OneDrive folder.

I don't think On1 needs a solution. Photo Raw has OneDrive access built into it and has been working fine for a long time. This is likely a MAC permission problem. I'm not the Mac guy, but when Brian is around later, I'm sure he'll have a suggestion or two.

I look forward to hearing a solution. As I already noted, I did enable full read & write permissions to my photos parent folder and all subfolders in OneDrive.

Brian doesn't appear to be around today, you could open a ticket with On1 tech support, but may not get a reply till Monday.

I'm here, I just haven't had time to get to this yet. Give me a few more minutes to finish what I'm doing and shift gears and I'll be back.

I don't use OneDrive myself so I'm not too familiar with it.
Where is your local OneDrive folder located? Boot drive, external drive?

Another thought. Have you tried going to the Favorites pane and removing the OneDrive folder from there then adding it back in again by clicking the + button and navigating to it.

Hi Brian,
My OneDrive folder is on the local drive, not an external one. I've tried Removing, re-navigating, re-adding in PR to no avail and, as noted previously, I've changed all the permissions settings to both the parent and enclosed items to R&W with Files on Demand disabled on those folders so that the file are always local as well as synced. There just seems to be no rhyme or reason why PR can't delete items unless, of course, Microsoft is doing something odd in its handling of the files (which would not surprise me with Microsoft).
Talk about timing... It looks like a new version of OneDrive just hit my computer overnight so I want to ride out the changes they made (I know they did something as the icons for a few of my folders are flashing as whatever changes they made are going on). I may simply end up moving my photos into the Documents folder which, outside of Desktop, seems to be the one Microsoft is now "pushing" as the location for backing up. Hopefully, then, OneDrive and PR 2023 will both live happily ever after.

It isn't the user permissions that are the problem. For some reason the program is lacking the proper permissions even though you say you've added them to the Privacy & Security settings in System Settings or System Preferences depending upon which OS you're running. That's confusing me.

Yep. Not sure what's going on.

I'm with Rick, you should open a ticket with support. Sorry..

No problem. I was originally just posting my experience in response to the original post to confirm that it does appear to be a legitimate problem, not simply a one-off occurrence. Maybe it's a two-off at the very least. ;-)
