LensMatch in ON1 2022.5 and unrecognised lenses
With the apparent demise of LensFun, many of my newer lenses are not recognised by ON1 Photo Raw 2022, and so there are no profiles for them of course. This includes several that I contributed images to LensFun for, but apparently not before it became a zombie project.
So I was very interested to try out the new LensMatch feature in ON1 2022.5. When Make is set to Built-In, this seemingly deduces its own profile for an unknown lens, and even allows it to be saved and automatically reused when it detects that same (???) unknown lens later. I tried it with a couple of lenses, including my HD Pentax-D FA 21mm F2.4 Limited, which is completely unknown to ON1. It certainly did something, apparently compensating for distortion, though I have yet to check the accuracy of the corrections. At first sight, they look plausible at least, though it did turn one picture taken with the 21mm lens upside down!
So LensMatch may fix one problem -- lack of profiles -- but still leaves another untouched. My 21mm lens (and others) are still unrecognised, so I cannot search for images by lens for example. But if LensMatch (via the EXIF) can tell that a picture is taken with that same lens, why can I not manually tell ON1 the name of the lens and have it recognised in the Info section? That would seem to be an easy extension.
Just for the record, here are some of the "recent" Pentax lenses not recognised by ON1 Photo Raw 2022.5:
From 2021
HD Pentax-D FA 21mm F2.4 Limited
HD Pentax-DA* 16-50mm F2.8
From 2020
HD Pentax-D FA* 85mm F1.4
HD Pentax-D FA 70-210 F4
From 2017
HD Pentax-D FA* 50mm F1.4
HD Pentax-DA* 11-16mm F2.8
There are also many older lenses that have had recent updates from SMC to the more modern HD coatings that are also not recognised.
