Invisible Thumbnails - 2022.5
AnsweredJust upgraded to 2022.5 on both Mac and Windows (cross-posting this as I'm having the same problem on both platforms)...
Now, when I launch the app I get my Catalog view as usual... except no thumbnails / filenames / whatever appear whatsoever. It is indicating that there are files present (with correct counts), and I can click around on the blank screen and select one and can get it to display (via the space bar), and can even scroll next / prev using the cursor keys... but "returning" to the thumbnail view (via ESC or G) displays... nothing.
This is happening when I go through my catalogs or when I just browse through folders (whether they are cataloged or not).
I have no filters applied (that I can see, as I had none applied before doing the upgrade).
I am accessing catalogs / files from both my local drive and from NAS drives. Still nothing.
Was working fine on both Mac and Windows before the upgrade, and now... nada.
Any ideas? TIA!

A screenshot showing us what you are seeing might be helpful.

Of course! My bad...

What happens if you navigate to a folder on your internal drive. Try clicking the Desktop button, the one that looks like a monitor. Does it show this screenshot assuming you haven't trashed it yet?

I've just done that and it, like the screenshot above, shows no thumbnails, filenames, etc. It does show that there are 3 files in the Desktop folder (which is correct) and lets my actually get to the screenshot by mouse clicking + spacebar + cursor keys... but I can't see a thumbnail or filename. And sure, it's easier to go through this on the Mac for me as well... :-)
Thanks

It may seem like I'm grasping at straws but I'm trying to work through different options. What happens if you change the size of the thumbnails?
Which Mac are you running and which OS version?

After having viewed that screenshot file by blundering about, then closing the preview by ESC, the app *did* display something weird... it's almost like it's overlaying the previous catalog view ("Keto and Cooking") with the "Desktop" one... and I'm definitely not in a dual monitor mode that I'm aware of (not having an external monitor anyway). Here's the screenshot:

I'm on a MacBook Air M1 (2020) running Monterey 12.4.
(And the PC is a Lenovo ThinkPad Carbon X1, running Windows 11H1, btw.)
And changing the thumbnail size made no difference, unfortunately.

That is weird and it is something that tech support needs to see.

I see the Filter Text box is being cut off. It should actually be centered at the bottom of the screen and it's not. This likely means the font is not set to default and it could be messing with the browser too.
The article for resetting the font is only for Windows. Does Mac have an option for this?

We don't have a system level fonts control like Windows does but we do have the Displays preferences panel in System Preferences where the display resolution can be changed.
Cameron, have you changed that? If so try setting it back to Default for Display.

Thanks... I checked my display preference pane... and it was already at "Default for Display". I also noticed that glitch on the Filter Text box (which renders correctly on my PC version of ON1... although it also has the same problem displaying thumbnails since 2022.5).

An odd thing I'm seeing in those screen shots is 2 folders seem to be selected. One is highlighted in Orange, but the other isn't also in the second screenshot there is an odd double file path at the top and one doesn't match what seems to be selected. Maybe it's a Mac thing but I have never seen it in Windows.

The first screenshot is just showing the selected folder (in orange) and one being highlighted because that's where my mouse pointer was... so that's not an issue. The second one, though, was one I noticed earlier as being weird -- and I couldn't reproduce that particular glitch on my Windows copy...

Ahh OK I see.

It isn’t inherently a Mac thing. I’ve never seen that happen on any of my Macs.

Just a thought — have you restarted your Mac since installing the update?

Restarted the Mac twice since noticing this.. and the PC once... ;-)

(Which I mention because I get the same behaviour on the PC side of the house... trying to think what's in common between my Mac and PC... same WiFi network, same VPN -- which I tried disabling and made no difference)

I have exactly the same issue at my Mac Mini M1 (macOS 12.4). Restart did not help, neither Reinstallation.
The images are virtually available (even the top right indication "n of m" shows the correct numbers). But the big center pane remains a black hole. If I change to the Filmstrip View everything is fine.
Somehow I can work with the Filmstrip view. But I can't attach metadata to a bundle of image. Maybe this is possible only in the Thumbnail View.

Have either of you gone through the Delete Settings and Reset ON1 Photo RAW 2022 steps? Those are always the first things to try when you start having problems with the program. If you go to tech support they will want you to try them first as well so might as well get it out of the way now.

So... I just tried the Delete Settings options on my Mac... and it worked! I can see thumbnails again, nothing had to be regenerated / rebuilt, etc.
Now I have to see how / if I can do the same on the PC version... :-)
Thanks for the tip re the Reset Settings article!

... and the same Delete Settings approach (hold down shift while launching app icon) works on PC as well. All is well again.
Thanks for everyone for their assistance... and hopefully any root cause to this strangeness (happening on separate Mac and PC devices) can be figured out or something... :-)

From now on for any weird problems, my first suggestion will be to Delete settings then come back if the problem persists.
Delete settings fixes a whole lot of problems that it has no right fixing at all.

Good advice... especially as it's the first time encountering *any* weirdness with this app over the past 3 years or so...

Delete Settings deletes the program's preferences and settings files. When the program sees they do not exist it creates a new set with default settings. It has long been known that corrupt preferences can cause programs to misbehave. All programs, not just Photo RAW.

Thanks for the tip. Now it is ok at my computer.
