Unable to get NoNoise AI to work in PhotoRAW 2022.5
HP i5-3570 / 16gig full tower PC, Windows Home 10 (latest update):
Anyone else had/solved a problem with getting NoNoise AI to run? I had high hopes for the latest release of PhotoRAW, and the inclusion of NoNoise really swung it for me.
2022.5 is performing well, but try as I may, I get no perceptible effect from NoNoise AI - the Before/After slider appears on screen but the image itself doesn't seem to get analyzed. Nothing shows as an edit in the History window.
If I then hit Apply to move on I seem to get no further unless I then click Done and then reopen the file and go back into Edit again. Classic Noise reduction is, however, working.
In anticipation of a graphics performance problem, I pulled back the settings to Low, in the hope of solving things, but with no change.
Any ideas, please?

What GPU do you have? If Nonoise isn't working, it's probably because of the GPU.
Try deleting the settings file per this article. It's an easy first thing to try.

Thanks for responding. I have tried the suggested fix previously, but gave it another shot with no change.
It sounds like a GPU problem (currently just onboard Intel HD Graphics..), so I suppose the answer is an altogether more capable card.
I wasn't expecting meteoric speed from my system, but was surprised that even pulling back the Graphics Performance slider all the way down didn't at least allow the app to at least run slowly.

I thought it was me Roger. You described what I'm experiencing exactly when trying to use No-noise.
And I have an RTX 3080. Also tried deleting the settings as per link above to no avail.

A 3080 should be more than enough for Nonoise to work. That's assuming it's set up right. Check this article to make sure it's set up for On1 to use your GPU properly.

As Rick said a 3080 is more than enough to handle On1 and nonoise.
One thing you do have to do in Windows 11 and now 10 as well is go into your graphics settings and add On1 to the list of Custom Options for Apps and set On1 to High Performance. That should help.

David, I know that the 3080 is more than enough for this feature to work. I said "And I have an RTX 3080" indicating that it didn't work for me either and I have a top-of the-line GPU as opposed to the OP's non-discrete onboard graphics. Please understand that not working and poor performance are two different things. OP reported that it was not working as was the findings of many others including myself. A lower end graphics card(as long as it is within the recommended specs of ON1 of course) should still work, just slower.
That said ON1 literally just released a new update that fixes "user reported issues". I tested and now No-Noises is working as expected at least for me. Hope its working now for Roger:-)

Thanks for the input, guys - currently downloading the update, and have done the tweaks to Windows graphics performance. We'll see what that little cocktail achieves...

The answer to that is... not a lot.
NoNoise AI just doesn't run, and hangs other edits until I hit Done and reload the image (sigh).
Classic, OTOH, runs as expected, but hardly fulfilling the big-deal sales-pitch of the 2022.5 PhotoRAW upgrade.
It looks like only further investment in a muscular GPU will sort this disappointing shortcoming.

I'm having the same problem. I just tried NoNoise AI in 2022.5.1 (16.5.1.12465), and all that it does is make the left side look far worse than the original. The right side looks exactly the same as without NoNoise. In 2022.0 and 2022.1, it did show a decent improvement.

The left side IS the original. From page 116 in the User Guide, "The Edit module’s Compare mode displays a side-by-side view of your photo, with the original version on the left, the edited version on the right."
You can turn off the split view by pressing Command/Control-Y or by clicking the button at the bottom of the window.

The right side in my image looks almost exactly the same as the original image - there is almost no discernible difference. On the other hand, the left side of the image looks WORSE after applying NoNoise. Rather than improving the 'after' image, it is somehow corrupting the 'before' image instead.
I know this doesn't seem logical, but it is what happens. For clarification, I have posted the 'before' and 'after' images here. I have submitted the issue to tech support.

Carl may I suggest an experiment for you.
Take an image without a lot of background like Brian did and my image below and add a texture then go into Nonoise this will clearly show what side is the result of Nonoise. Nonoise shows the original image on the Left and it is showing you what the original looks like BEFORE any and all edits are applied.
I can't see what your Tone and Color and other settings are but do keep in mind the Left side is the original raw data out camera with no edits at all so that may be why it looks "corrupted" to you and the Right side is the image with Nonoise and all other edits applied. I generally apply Nonoise first in my workflow if I think the image needs it then do all my other editing that way it is much easier to see the changes when applying Nonoise.

I can see a distinct difference in the left side before version and the right side after version. Note that the left side does not have any lens correction applied either. This is why you might see the image jump a bit as you move the slider around. Also note that in your top, before applying NNAI screenshot, any processing you might have done is being displayed. That will go away in the before and after preview whether you use NNAI or the Classic option. Try turning on the split screen preview for it (Command/Control-Y) or toggle preview off and on with the \ key.

My problem is not merely that NNAi (very latest update release installed) has no effect at all, but that if, as an experiement, I hit Apply the app actually hangs access to other Edit areas, i.e. Tone & Color, Lens Correction, Transform, etc.
Classic, on the other hand, runs as expected, but the results don't look in the same league as we see in what I assume are real-world demos.0 -
Your system is pretty old Roger. They are selling for less than $200 online and appear to have only the built-in Intel HD graphics processor. You mentioned above adding a new graphics card. That will certainly help.
