RAW Image Edits Not Saved After Export

When you finish editing an image either by returning to the Browser or selecting a new photo while still in the Editor the edits are automatically saved in 2 places — ON1's internal edits database and in a .on1 sidecar file.

There are a couple of caveats to that however.

    1. If you've turned off the option to save the .on1 sidecars in the Preferences > Files panel then they will be saved in only the database.
    2. The first time you add a new Layer the program creates an .onphoto file and the edits are saved for that file. If you did not return to the Browser before you added the Layer then the original image file will not have the edits made before the Layer was added. I make it a habit to return to the Browser to force a save of my edits before I add that 1st new Layer and the concurrent creation of the new .onphoto file.

Are you using Layers and do you still have the sidecar option turned on?

Are you exporting from the Editor? Again, my workflow is to return to the Browser to insure the edits are saved before I use the Export feature.

I have the same problem, but only since the last update.  I add my layers, click done.  And, no  onphoto file created.  I lose all my layers. It is very frustrating.

Yes, I had no trouble before the updates either.  I agree, very frustrating.  I think there are way too many updates for the sake of updates.

I deleted the settings and it is working now.  I'm not sure for how long though as I've been down this road before.

I have problem with layers not saving too and the program crashes a lot.  I found you need to click on another photo when doing work and then come back to the one you are working on for it to save.  It does not start saving until you go onto the next photo.  So, if you do a lot of edits and it crashes when you have not gone to the next image and then back, you will lose all off you edits to that image.  I regularly, click on the next image after making a couple edits and come back to save it.  Very annoying.  ON1 said they did not have a fix for this.

Raw 2022.5 should be considered as a beta version.  ON1 suggested I go back to 2022.1.  However, I shoot the OM-1 raw files and only 2022.5 will handle those.  So, they are seeing that they need to do a lot of work on the 2022.5 version.  It has many problems.  Very unstable.  I did not have these issues with 2022.1.

Steve, do you go back to browse to click on the next image, or do you do it from edit? I haven't used on1 since the problems started. Too much work to lose the edits.

Steve, yes, your edits are not saved until you finish an editing session for any one photo. You can either click on a new photo from the Filmstrip while still in the Editor or, my method is to simply press G D to return to the Browser and jump right back into the Editor. I find that to be faster than opening a new photo with the time that's required for it to load before you can go back to the file you're working on. There is no fix because this is how the program is designed. If the program auto-saved the Cancel feature wouldn't work correctly.

2022.5.1 is very stable for me but I'm not a Windows user. I run an M1 Mac mini. I created a time-lapse last night that took the program 2.5 hours to complete assembling from 1519 compressed .CR2 files. It worked without a flaw. I have not seen a crash at all with this version. What are your system specs? The crashing seems to be related to the hardware being used. The new version has much higher requirements than previous versions and IMO the specs the company gives to be able to run the program are much too loose.

Sara, I do not go to browse. I just click on the film strip to the next image and come back. But someone was saying that there's a shortcut with keystroke. That makes a lot faster. So I'll try that method.

Brian Larson, thanks for the info.

Sandra, no, I click on the film strip on the bottom. I don't go to browse to click on the next image.
