I can only answer #2 and that answer is no, not directly. In order for Photo RAW to see your Lightroom edits you must either Export the image from Lr to a TIFF, JPEG, PSD, or DNG. Another option is to Migrate your Lightroom Library to Photo RAW.

I highly recommend you download the User Guide and take a look at it.

There is also The Official ON1 Guide to Leaving Adobe Lightroom.

    Thanks Brian.

I have downloaded the User Guide and I am the type to read cover to cover. No time yet :)

Did not know about the other guide. Off to download. However, seems that it will be hard to leave LR for the 1,000's of pics I have ther enow and sometimes need to re-edit.

There is a way to call Photo RAW from within Lr. Anthony Morganti has a YouTube video that explains how to set that up.

Bob, with respect to your statement that “it will be hard to leave LR for the 1,000's of pics I have there now and sometimes need to re-edit.” As Brian alluded to above, if you migrate your LR library to On1 Photo Raw, most of your non-destructive LR edits will be converted to non-destructive Photo Raw edits. There are some limitations to the process and some types of edits do not carry over but these are mentioned in the Guide to Leaving LR. A successful migration takes time before, during and after the migration …. but it is possible to have a life after LR, if that is what you are looking for and, for the most part, bring your non-destructive edits with you. And if all else fails, the migration is not supposed to impact your LR library so it is not an all or nothing exercise. As always, preparation and backup will be key to success if you want to go this way.

Bob :) And thanks. Yes I read the migration guide and it may and may not be enough to move totally to ON1. Might. And i might find rediting in ON1 preferred. But so many final shots wil need to be very sure. But at least the lightroom and sidecars remain untouiched.

Will take some time to know what my preferences will be. I might keep everything historical in LR and new shoots in ON1. Don't know just yet.

Easy question? How do I display the file name while editing? Cannot find it anywhere and fairly important to be sure I am working on the right vrsion of an image.

The image's file name is displayed right at the top of the window.

You can also open the Filmstrip (hotkey F) and look at the selected image.

Ill look, hang on. I am sure not there when editing....

Neither when selected in grid more nor when editing

AHHH, on the left hand edge of the window title. What a strange place for it. Not like your image which appears to be centered in the app. I do not have that.

I'm not seeing your Zoom Controls, either. Is there a setting for what to display I am missing?

    Thanks.

Care to post a screen shot showing the entire Photo RAW window please?

My screenshots were both taken while in the Editor. For the Filmstrip it doesn't matter as it has the same appearance in both the Browser and the Editor.

Also, I'm running a Mac so there could be a difference in Windows.

    I don't want the filmstrip.

    Gonna be big...

    So what am I missing?

And thanks for the help. i want to like this program :)

I just switched to Edit and now have the Zooms, but no file name there. Don't know why I am seeing the zooms now and not before. But...

You are not missing anything. What you are seeing is the difference between the Mac and Windows UIs. It has nothing to do with the program being run, it is the default for the OS.

Ahh. Then let me suggest you add the name of the file much more prominently in the Windows builds. Seems like such an obvious need to know whoch image you are working on.

Ok, more questions as they come up.

The Zoom field at the top of the screen appears only in the Editor.

I highly recommend that you download the User Guide and read through it. In particular the sections which describe the window layout for the Browser and the Editor. It describes each field in the UI then goes into detail on how to use each of them. ON1 User Guides

You should also know that you are not talking to the company here, just other users like yourself who are willing to help. Once again, what you are seeing is what Windows provides for their windows. ON1 has no control over the appearance of that part of the window.

I HAVE downloaded the user guide and I do read cover to cover. Not enough time yet. And hard to search for where is the file name when editing....

Start by reading pages 16 (ON1 Browse Main Screen Window Overview) and 119 (Basic Global Editing with Develop). Note that all the screenshots come from a Macintosh system though so there will be some differences such as the location of the file name — centered vs on the left.

Well, they do control their own GUI and putting the file name in the program and not the window title shoul dbe pretty obvious. I don't know anmy other program that only shows the image name in the title bar. None.

LR allows me to make it very obvious - or not.

And, I assumed since you are a moderator, you were part of the company. My bad.

Once again, the program is using the standard Window UI provided by Microsoft. You can't compare what Adobe does with what other programs do. They do a LOT of non-standard UI things. They also have the manpower and the budget to do the development for that kind of thing.

As for the moderator thing, it's not a problem. Most folks make that assumption at first. 😎

The company does provide a place for users to make suggestions for improving the program. It's called the ON1 Photo RAW Project. Everyone has the ability to post their ideas and vote on those submitted by other users. Once an idea has enough community support the company evaluates it for possible inclusion in a future release. Before posting an idea do a search for similar ideas to prevent diluting the votes.

Photoshop does it differently, but obvious:

But DPP by Canon does it similar to ON1, so I did find another.

The Windows UI has nothing to do with it. The Raw Photo app can display the file name anywhere in the container they choose to. Amazingly simple to program. Trust me :)

I have a degree in CS with an emphasis on software engineering. I’m not going to debate this with you. I’ve told you what you can do if you don’t like how the program is set up.

    Peace. 😀
